Fantasy Football Week 3 Waiver Wire Winning Adds
Each and every week in Fantasy Football there are surprise performances and there are injures. Both of these occurrences tend to lead to opportunity. Opportunity leads to touches, and touches tend to lead to fantasy points. Every week there is something to pay attention to in the NFL. At times it is injuries, others it’s bye weeks, and in 2021, the Covid-19 pandemic lingers and could possibly impact NFL teams, and your fnatasy rosters. All of these scenarios highlight the waiver wire, and your need to pay attention to it.
Entering Week 3, the is young, and the player pool to choose from is large as the bye weeks have yet to kick in. Rob Sullivan joins Brad Menendez this week to discuss Fantasy Football Week 3 Waiver Wire Winning Adds.
Sam Darnold – Carolina Panthers
Rostered: 5.9% ESPN , Yahoo 15%
Sam Darnold was a first round draft pick back in 2018. He struggled in his three seasons in New York and it was though that a fresh start would do him a world of good. Darnold was traded to the Carolina Panthers this spring and so far in two games it would appear that a fresh start was what the doctor ordered. In two games Darnold has combined to complete 50 of his 73 attempts for 584 yards, 3 touchdowns and 1 interception. Get your players away from Adam Gase and good things happen.
Daniel Jones – New York Jets
Rostered: ESPN 10.7%, Yahoo 19%
On Thursday Night the New York Giants gifted the Washington Football Team the victory, despite the efforts of their QB Daniel Jones. Jones completed 22 of32 passes for 249 yards and a touchdown in the Giants’ 30-29, and he added nine carries for 95 additional yards and a touchdown. His day should have been even better had Darius Slayton not dropped a sure 48-yard touchdown pass. The Giants are bad, and that is good for Jones as he will be running and throwing often the remainder of the season.
Kirk Cousins – Minnesota Vikings
Rostered: ESPN 24.6%, Yahoo 64%
It would appear that the Minnesota Vikings defensive improvements we a tad exaggerated entering the season. As a result this Minnesota Vikings offense is being forced to throw more often than Head Coach Mike Zimmer would prefer. Cousins in the Week 1 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals was 36/49 for 351 yards and 2 scores. Today in a shootout with Arizona, Cousins was good again 22 of 32 for 244 yards with three touchdown passes.
2. Running Backs
James White – New England Patriots
Rostered: ESPN 54.7%, Yahoo 41%
In Week 1 James White turned 10 touches into 61 scrimmage yards and 12.1 PPR points in the loss to the Miami Dolphins. In Week 2, James White was involved in the New England offense yet again. He had 5 carries for 20 yards and a touchdown, and for the second straight game had 6 receptions. James White should absolutely be rostered especially in leagues that award points for receptions.
Sony Michel – Los Angeles Rams
Rostered: ESPN 67.3%, Yahoo 60%
When Sony Michel was dealt to the Los Angles Rams towards the tail end of training camp, it appeared that his fantasy value went straight up. After Week 1 and his 1 carry for 2 yards, optimism for Sony took a dip. Michel was firmly behind Darrell Henderson in Week 1 and for the majority of the Week 2 matchup against the Colts. Henderson was injured in the second half and Sony came off the bench and ran well. Michel totaled 46 yards on 10 carries and needs to be rostered everywhere should Henderson miss some time.
Michael Carter – New York Jets
Ownership: ESPN 55%, Yahoo 51%
Michael Carter started slow this season, he was the fourth back off the bench in the preseason. Two weeks into the Jets regular season and it would appear that he is moving to the top of the depth chart. Carter had a nice game this week against the New England Patriots totaling 88 yards on 13 touches. His role should grow going forward and he is a nice depth add on your roster.
3. Wide Receivers
Michael Pittman Jr. – Indianapolis Colts
Rostered: ESPN – 64.2% , Yahoo – 61%
Michael Pittman was a game time decision in Week 2 and it would appear the Colts made the right decision. Pittman caught 8 of his team leading 12 targets for 123 yards in the Colts 27-24 loss to the visiting Los Angeles Rams. The game was a nice bounce back from Week 1 when he was limited to 3 catches for 29 yards. It is clear that he is the top pass catcher on the Colts and he should be rostered everywhere.
Tim Patrick – Denver Broncos
Rostered: ESPN – 12.2% , Yahoo – 22%
Tim Patrick caught 3-of-4 targets for 37 yards and one score in Denver’s Week 2 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars. It was his second touchdowns in as many games as he’s now recorded a team-high eight touchdown receptions since the start of the 2020 season. Fantasy Managers should look to add Patrick this week as he has a starting role as long as Jerry Jeudy is sidelined.
KJ Osborn – Minnesota Vikings
Rostered: ESPN – 1.1%, Yahoo – 2%
KJ Osborn is the Minnesota Vikings 3rd WR. Most seasons that wouldn’t mean much, but early into 2021 with this Vikings defense it might just be a fantasy relevant position. In Week 1 Osborn was targeted 9 times and caught 7 of them for 76 yards. In Week 2 he saw 6 targets, catching 5 of them for 91 yards and touchdown. Osborn is a WR that shouldn’t command much of your FABB, and is a WR that worth a flier off the waiver wire.
4. Tight Ends
Maxx Williams – Arizona Cardinals
Rostered: ESPN 0.1%, Yahoo 0%
Predominantly a blocking TE, Maxx Williams showed a solid pass catching side to himself this week in the victory over the Minnesota Vikings. Williams had a team high seven catches for 94 yards, and was frequently the target of Kyler Murray on third downs, Williams may be carving out a fantasy relevant role in the Cardinals offense.
Rostered: ESPN 5.1%, Yahoo 1%
Jack Doyle was targeted 8 times in the Colts loss to the Rams this week. He turned those 8 targets into 5 catches for 64 yards. Doyle is a steady reliable target for the Colts and your fantasy team. 11.4 PPR points will land a TE in the top-12 more often than not.
Pat Freiermuth – Pittsburgh Steelers
Rostered: ESPN 4.4%, Yahoo 7%
Adding Pat Freiermuth is a speculative add for those that may want to roster an additional TE as we near the bye weeks. Freiermuth has played his way ahead of Eric Ebron in Pittsburgh, and as the season progresses his role will only grow. He was targeted four times this week catching them all for 36 yards.
