Week 9 Waiver Wire adds for Fantasy Football 2022

Every week, fantasy managers look to improve their roster(s) or simply pick up a player that they can start in a pinch because of injuries or bye weeks. This is even more true when it comes to Week 9 of the NFL schedule. This week is known amongst most of the fantasy community as “Byepocalypse” because there are six teams on bye. The only other week that this is true, is Week 14.

With so many teams on bye, utilizing the waiver wire to add complementary players that can be plugged straight into a lineup and give decent production becomes that much more important.

As we do, the RotoHeat brain trust is here to give you the best waiver wire adds for Week 9 at quarterback, running back, wide receiver, and tight end. Go get these guys if your roster needs help!

Week 9 Waiver Wire Adds – Quarterbacks

With bye weeks running rampant on the few every-week starters that we have for fantasy football in the 2022 NFL season, being able to grab a good streaming option is more important than ever. Luckily, there are at the very least a couple of good options. Marcus Mariota has already been on this list before, but we are going back to the well once more, as he is a solid streaming option. He provides a decent floor with his rushing upside, but also has the ability to give you a very strong week if he has a good matchup.

The other quarterback option is another QB who shows tremendous rushing upside. That QB is Justin Fields of the Chicago Bears.

Fields is showing improvement in the passing game, and he has rushed the ball 76 times in 8 games, providing a great floor. He has scored above 17 fantasy points in 4 straight weeks, and over 23 in his last two outings.

Week 9 Waiver Wire Adds – Running Backs

The Rams decided to trot out Ronnie Rivers as their lead back this week, as Darrell Henderson had battled an illness and an injury for most of the week leading up to the game. The Rams have clearly been in the market for an RB, but so far nothing has manifested. Rivers did not look great, so it stands to reason that the Rams are still looking for a different answer at the position. This is where Kyren Williams comes in.

Williams was selected late in the 2022 NFL Draft, mainly because of a bad showing at the NFL Combine. His physical attributes are not great, however, Williams plays bigger on the field than he is. He is a very good pass blocker for an RB, he is a great pass-catcher, and can run well between the tackles. This makes him a speculative add in fantasy, that could pay off down the line.

If you need a back who is going to help you right here and now, Latavius Murray is someone you can take a look at. Murray had 15 touches in Week 8, splitting almost evenly with Melvin Gordon (13 touches). Murray will not be a sexy pick-up, but he is a solid selection to get you through bye weeks at a position with a lot of injuries right now.

Another possible add, who is not sexy at all, but is going to be a decent flex play for at least a bit. That is Tyler Allgeier of the Atlanta Falcons. Allgeier has become a bit more involved in the passing game, giving him a better floor than when he was exclusively rushing the football. This Falcons team wants to run the ball, so expect Allgeier to get a good number of touches, at least until Cordarelle Patterson comes back.

There are a lot of running backs this week that could be available on your waiver wire, and the next one is Kenyan Drake. Gus Edwards went down with an injury in Week 8 and Drake picked up the slack. Although Edwards’ injury is reportedly minor, Drake has done well with the opportunities he has received in recent weeks, making him a solid add.

The last running back, and probably the best one you could look for is Khalil Herbert. Herbert has proven that he deserves to be involved, and the Bears have rushed for over 200 rushing yards in three games straight. Part of that is because Khalil Herbert has seen an uptick in touches, and he is being very efficient with them.

Week 9 Waiver Wire Adds – Wide Receivers

If you need help at the wide receiver position to fill in bye weeks or just to shake things up on your roster, check your waiver wire to see if Michael Gallup is available. After having no catches in Week 7, Gallup bounced back with 4 catches on 6 targets in Week 8. He could become more and more involved in the Dallas offense as both he and Dak Prescott rekindle their chemistry after both having missed time with injuries.

Another WR you can look for is Mack Hollins. He is a low-floor, decent ceiling player if you need to fill in a bye-week for one of your starters.

Parris Campbell is a different option who has looked good recently but suffered a bit from a quarterback change. Campbell could end up benefitting if he develops a rapport with Sam Ehlinger.

Rondale Moore is your best Week 9 Waiver Wire adds

The top priority this week, however, should be Rondale Moore. He is starting to look a lot better after coming back from injury and could help your fantasy team during the stretch run of the season, as he is getting more and more involved in the offense. He is coming off 7 receptions, 92 receiving yards, and 1 receiving touchdown game, making him the guy everyone wants off of waivers.

Week 9 Waiver Wire Adds – Tight End

When it comes to the tight end position, there are a few very good options that could very well be available. One tight end that could benefit a lot in the short term from injuries is Isaiah Likely. The rookie tight end stepped up when Mark Andrews and Rashod Bateman had to leave the game in Week 8, and if either misses time, Likely could be a good option going forward.

If you want to look at a tight end who could help you for a bit longer than Likely might, then Tyler Conklin could be your guy. Conklin started the season well, getting loads of targets from Joe Flacco. That changed when Zach Wilson came back to be the starter. However, it seems that Conklin and Wilson have started to link up more regularly, making Conklin a decent add at the tight end position.

Finally, we have Evan Engram. Once a must-start very early in his career, Engram began to drop passes and sustain injuries every so often. This led to a downswing in production, and he fell completely out of favor with the fantasy community. Now he is in a good situation, with a good young QB and a good head coach who likes to utilize the TE in his offense. As a result, Engram is now TE10 and should not be hanging out on your waiver wire. If he is, go scoop him up and plug him in your lineup if you need a TE.
