The Chicago Cubs bolstered their bullpen by acquiring the San Francisco Giants LHP Derek Holland on Friday afternoon.
While the 2-4, 5.90 ERA don’t look great for Holland’s 31 appearances, left handed hitters have only hit .182 against Holland in 2019. That includes just 1 extra base hit in 77 at-bats.
The Cubs have been struggling to put together their bullpen and many figured they would be in the market for LH relief, but Holland’s name was not on the minds of many. Holland has a salary of $6.5M this seasons and if he would happen to join the Cubs rotation, that number could go up for 2020.
Holland will not make it to Milwaukee for tonights game, but the Cubs designated Tim Collins and are expected to recall Ian Happ from AAA. On Saturday, they will have to make another move to accommodate the arrival of Derek Holland.
