2021 NFL Week 16 IDP Waiver Wire Adds

Well, whomever has survived Week 15 to reach a meaningful Week 16 game, congratulations! I wish I could tell you that things will be better the rest of the season but that would be lie. All we can do is put our best foot forward, examine the depth charts, playing time and pay attention to the news. Be ready to adapt and have a list of players to check on in case of emergency as a waiver add.

We will have a few more than normal deep dives this week due to the nature of the situation we find ourselves in. Knowing your league, scoring and set-up, is paramount as always.

Remember to always check your lineups before games start for late-breaking injuries and unexpected starters, and you can find the RotoHeat IDP scoring here.

2021 NFL Week 16 IDP Waiver Wire Adds: Linebackers

2021 NFL Week 16 IDP Waiver Wire Adds: Linebackers
2021 NFL Week 16 IDP Waiver Wire Adds: Linebackers – Jonas Griffith

Jonas Griffith, Linebacker, Denver Broncos
Ownership: Sleeper 0%, Yahoo 0%

I said deep dives and we are starting with one. Jonas filled in as the second main inside linebacker in Week 15 and had a 79% snap share with 8 solos, 1 assist, and 1 TFL. Denver’s linebackers have been a mess this year with injuries and players being moved around due to inefficiencies.

Week 16 brings the Raiders, who are 21st in points allowed to opposing linebackers. It isn’t a great matchup clearly, but if you need help in a deep league he would be serviceable tackle based add if Kamu and Christian continue to sit.

Jalen Reeves-Maybin, Linebacker, Detroit Lions
Ownership: Sleeper 0%, Yahoo 0%

Alex Anzalone is now on IR and Reeves-Maybin was the main linebacker for the Lions last week. With Anzalone out I would expect that to continue, as Josh Woods only had a 3% snap share (he did not start but did get hurt) and Derrick Barnes look like tertiary and secondary options for the Lions.

On a 96% snap share in Week 15 he had 4 solos, 1 assist and 2 PD. The Falcons are the Week 16 opponent and are 25th in points allowed to opposing linebackers, but as the main guy in the middle Reeves-Maybin should have a safe floor for you.

KJ Wright, Linebacker, Las Vegas Raiders
Ownership: Sleeper 0%, Yahoo 0%

With the linebacking corps banged up for Las Vegas the old veteran stepped in and had a 100% snap share this past week. It was his high for the year, after a 74% share the prior week being the prior high share. In Week 15 he had 4 solos and 4 assists, which was his high for the year in tackles too.

You will want to see who of Divine Deablo, Cory Littleton and Denzel Perryman is playing alongside him, as if Perryman plays I would would elsewhere. If Perryman sits again though I would fire up Wright as a safe floor against the Broncos (18th in points allowed to linebackers).

2021 NFL Week 16 IDP Waiver Wire Adds: Defensive Backs

2021 NFL Week 16 IDP Waiver Wire Adds: Defensive Backs
2021 NFL Week 16 IDP Waiver Wire Adds: Defensive Backs Chauncey Gardner-Johnson

Rudy Ford, Safety, Jacksonville Jaguars
Ownership: Sleeper 0%, Yahoo 0%

Ford took over a larger snap share with Rayshawn Jenkins leaving the Week 15 game early. Ford had a 66% snap share and 3 solos in that game. Week 16 brings the Jets, who are 11th in points allowed to opposing safetys, a slightly better situation than last week against Houston, who was 17th in points allowed. Ford seems likely to start for the Jaguars as the main back-up safety this year, but as with all the COVID situations, keep an eye on this at game time to make sure.

Chauncey Gardner-Johnson, Safety/Cornerback, New Orleans Saints
Ownership: Sleeper 0%, Yahoo 0%

The Saints play Miami in Week 16, and Miami is 16th in points given up to opposing safetys and 13th in points given up to opposing cornerbacks. Chauncey has played much more cornerback than safety this year, but his position varies by site. Chauncey left Week 9 early and returned to a partial workload in Week 14 (55% snaps). Week 15 saw him return to a near 100% workload (95%) like he had been getting before he was hurt. Week 15 saw him have 6 solos, 1 assist, 1 PD, and 1 INT.

Tavierre Thomas, Cornerback, Houston Texans
Ownership: Sleeper 0%, Yahoo 0%

Tavierre had starter level snaps in Week 15 with Terrance Mitchell out, and was the second highest PFF graded Texans defender that week (behind Neville Hewitt). With an 80% snap share he had 7 solos and 4 assists. Week 16 brings the Chargers, who give up the most points to opposing cornerback so far this year. If Tavierre is pressed into starting again with Mitchell out, he is a great play who is free on waivers.

2021 NFL Week 16 IDP Waiver Wire Adds: Defensive Linemen
2021 NFL Week 16 IDP Waiver Wire Adds: Defensive Linemen – DJ Reader

Justin Jones, Defensive End/Defensive Tackle, Los Angeles Chargers
Ownership: Sleeper 0%, Yahoo 0%

Justin has a 68% share over the past 8 weeks and has put together three nice weeks in a row.

Week 13: 2 solos, 1 assist, 1 TFL, 1 sack
Week 14: 3 solos, 2 assists, 1 TFL, 1 sack
Week 15: 3 solos, 1 TFL

Week 16 brings the Texans, who give up 5th most points to opposing defensive ends and 14th most to defensive tackles. Justin plays across the line and his position will vary based on league, but should be a decent free add if needed either way.

Arik Armstead, Defensive End/Defensive Tackle, San Francisco 49ers
Ownership: Sleeper 0%, Yahoo 2%

The Titans are 1st in points allowed to defensive tackles and 3rd in points allowed to defensive ends. Arik (75% snap share on the year) plays all across the defensive line, so either way this should work out. Armstead has really only shown up for fantasy football when the matchup is right, with four games of 6 or more points and 9 games with 3.5 points or fewer. If you are desperate due to COVID or injuries issues, I like Arik a lot this week.

DJ Reader, Defensive Tackle, Cincinnati Bengals
Ownership: Sleeper 0%, Yahoo 0%

With a 59% snap share on the year, Reader had one game over 3.5 fantasy points this year before Week 14. Weeks 14 (3 solos, 1 TFL, 1 sack) and 15 (4 solos, 1 assist, 1TFL) he showed up with a 59% snap share each week. Week 16 brings the Ravens, who are third in points allowed to opposing defensive tackles on the year.
