Currently WR43 based on the RotoHeat team rankings, Michael Gallup should have no problem WELL outperforming that ranking in my opinion, and there are plenty of reasons to like him in 2022, lets dive into why I expect him to be a sleeper this year!

Injury Concerns?

Michael Gallup Fantasy Outlook: 2022 Sleeper or Bust? 3

January 2nd, Michael Gallup tore his ACL and many thought that his 2022 season would be over but now-a-days, players can return in six months if all goes well (See a great article by Reid Hanson on an update for the injury). To sum it all up, the Cowboys couldn’t be that nervous with as much money as they gave him AND traded away Amari Cooper.

All that being said, he will miss sometime this season, some are saying between 2 and 4 games and thats ok, that will push him down draft boards and you’ll be able to get him as a steal later! On top of that if you are a person who likes Sleeper, they have him as WR51 which when it comes to when he would be drafted that’s somewhere around the 130th potentially…

2022 Expectations

I’ve seen expectations anywhere from 90-120 targets, around 65-75 receptions, 900+ yards and 5-10 touchdowns. For instance, based on 2021 stats, he’d finish as a low-end WR2 and to get a player like that later in your draft, that’s money!

I feel good about those expectations for a number of reasons, first of all the departure of Amari Cooper will open up 104 targets and Cedrick Wilson will open up another 61 targets (165 total targets!). Ceedee Lamb already had 120 targets, and Dalton Schultz had 104, which I expect both to see a slight bump for sure. Rookie 3rd rounder Jalen Tolbert certainly looks like the early season benefactor as free-agent acquisition James Washington looks to fill the Cedrick Wilson role in this offense.

I feel comfortable expecting around 90 targets, 65 receptions, 850 yards and 6 touchdowns, and I would love to slot him in as my WR3 this season, knowing he will probably have some solid WR2 games from week 8 on this year! Don’t sleep on Gallup or he may come back to haunt you later this season!
