Quentin Johnston Dynasty Rookie Profile

High School

Quentin Johnston hails from Temple, Texas, and he attended high school in the very same place at Temple High School. When he left high school he did so as a four-star recruit according to 247 Sports. At first, Johnston made his commitment to play college football at Texas. After Texas dismissed one of its coaches, Quentin Johnston decided against playing for Texas and instead flipped to commit to TCU.

College

Already as a true freshman, Johnston became a starter at TCU and had a team-high 487 receiving yards on 22 receptions. He also had two receiving touchdowns and two rushing touchdowns. As a sophomore, he caught 33 balls for 612 yards and 6 TDs.

It was not until his junior season, that QJ, as he is often called, had something that resembled a true breakout season. In 2022 caught 60 passes for 1,069 yards and 6 TDs. He also helped TCU get to the National Championship game.

NFL

Quentin Johnstons leaves TCU as a junior to join the 2023 NFL Draft, and his best attributes are his size as well as his athleticism. He is a big target at WR standing at 6’ 4’’ and 215 lbs.

Unfortunately, when you put on the tape, QJ does not play to his size. Although he does sometimes win jump balls, he lives a lot of off yards after the catch on short and intermediate routes. He also struggles with drops, but that is fixable at the NFL level.

Johnston currently projects to go in the 20-30 range of the first round in the draft, as a top 3 or 4 receiver. What works in his favor, is that his flaws can all be worked on, whereas almost no other wide receiver in this draft class possesses the size and athleticism combo that QJ has, which could make him a very interesting prospect for fantasy. If Johnston can overcome the drops and learn to play to his size, he should have the highest ceiling of any wide receiver in this class. The question about consistency remains, which is also why he currently resides as the WR3 on the RotoHeat Dynasty Rookie Rankings.
