What is Davante Adams fantasy value in redraft leagues?
The longtime all-pro Green Bay Packers wide receiver was traded to the Las Vegas Raiders this off-season. The Packers traded Davante Adams for a first-round pick (pick #22) and a second-round pick (pick #53) in the upcoming 2023 NFL draft. This was a shocking move for a franchise you would expect to be contending for Super Bowls.
What was even more shocking is that reports came out later that Adams requested the trade. Why would an all-pro want to leave a team with Championship aspirations? Why leave MVP Aaron Rodgers?
Since being drafted into the league, Adams has been a very consistent player in fantasy and real life. The combination of Aaron Rodgers and Adams was deadly to opposing defenses. Adams elite route running ability, strong hands, and footwork has helped him become one of the best wide receivers in the league.
Going into year nine in the NFL, Adams reunites with former college quarterback Derek Carr. After the trade was official only one can think how that stacks up in the fantasy football world. Adams goes from a perennial MVP to a solid starting QB at best. Can he continue to be considered a wide receiver one in fantasy for 2022?
Can Adams still be Elite?
As stated, Adams has been on elite levels regarding production and talent on the football field. Now joining forces with Carr you would want to see similar production (We Hope).
Well at least in college they had a good connection with each other at Fresno state university. The two were able to show that they can be productive with Adams having two really good seasons with Carr. Per sports-reference.com Adams had 233 receptions, 3,031 receiving yards, and 38 touchdowns in his collegiate career.
To me, that shows early production in Adams career that he is a producer. It can be an argument made that if he can still be a focal point of any offense he should be able to give you a solid floor in fantasy points per game.
Courtesy of @sleeper below the picture shows that Adams can get it done. I believe we must temper expectations early due to getting acclimated to a new team and system but in his case, I’m believing in the talent. Adams is still atop wide receiver and Carr shouldn’t hold him back. What we want is consistency. Adams gives you that year-end and year-out.
