Touches and Target report – Week 3

“Volume is king”. If you have played fantasy for a while, you have most certainly heard this phrase before. And it is true that volume is one of the best indicators when trying to predict performances. Enter the Touches and Target report. Here, we will give you an overview of all the relevant targets and touches for every team in the league.

When I say relevant targets, it means I will not be including something like Stephen Carlson getting 1 target for the Browns or Damion Ratley getting a target for the Giants, because, let’s face it, you will never ever(!) have either of them on your fantasy team.

The report will be broken in to a number of stats, but the most important ones are touches, targets and target share, because these are the true indicators of volume going forward.

Mark Andrews
Miles Boykin 1127,4 8
Devin Duvernay 22311,1 71
Do not use anyone in this backfield. Right now they’re exclusively depending on TDs to give you a good return on starting them. Just don’t. Brown is still a low-end WR3 for me, and you have to start Andrews every week. Both are boom/bust players, so you win some, you lose some.

Mike Thomas 2224,8 9
Tee Higgins 55921,4 402
Drew Sample 1112,4 1
Auden Tate 2249,5 29
Mixon continues to get the workload. It’s likely that the efficiency will come, but we juts don’t know when. I would keep playing him and not panic. Tyler Boyd finally got the work he deserves and capitalized. And don’t overreact and blow all your FAAB on Higgins. He got targets in this game, but his performance was carried by 2 TDs. AJ Green should be downgraded to a WR4 though. And the Drew Sample experiment seems like it stopped before it even got started.

Cleveland Browns

CarriesReceptionsTouchesTargets Target Share %Rushing yardsReceiving yardsTDs
Kareem Hunt16218313,646181

Jarvis Landry 44418,2 36
Odell Beckham 44627,3 59
Austin Hooper 33418,2 25
Harrison Bryant 1129,1 31
This offense is running (quite literally) through Chubb and Hunt, who had 38 touches between the two. With a clear desire to limit Baker Mayfields influence on the game, Landry and OBJ suffers as a result, and neither is anything more than a flex play going forward, regardless of their incredible talent.

Pittsburgh Steelers

Chase Claypool 11411,4 24
James Washington 55720 36
Eric Ebron 55720 521
Vance McDonald 3338,6 35
This is still Conners backfield. Snell is inefficient with his touches unless he gets enough playing time to get in to a rhytm, which isn’t happening when Conner is healthy. Diontae left the game early with a concussion, so I don’t put any stock in the target breakdown. Ebron is a fine waiver pick up if Diontae can’t play this week.

Randall Cobb 44414,8 951
Jordan Akins 22311,1 28
DJ salvaged his game with a TD, but this Texans team looks pretty bad right now (they’ve had a brutal schedule so far), so no one on this team is worth more than being used as a flex. That goes for Fuller and DJ, the rest I wouldn’t trust.

TY Hilton 33312 52
Mo Alie-Cox 33312 501
Zach Pascal 22416 34
Michael Pittman 33416 26
This is more what we expected to see from Hines, who for some reason totally disappeared in week 2. The fact that Jordan Wilkins got 10 touches was because the starters were pulled in the 4th quarter. In the pass game, there is no one you can trust, not even TY Hilton. Personally, I hope Mo Alie-Cox becomes a thing because his size makes him a Gronk-like match up nightmare in the passing game, but he’s not seeing enough targets to warrant starting yet unless you’re desperate.

Keelan Cole 44512,2 43
Chris Conley 33819,5 34
James Robinson has taken the fantasy world by storm, and is a set-it-and-forget-it RB2 until we see otherwise. Cole and Vishka are the best flex starts until Chark comes back,  then we probably have to downgrade them

Cole Beasley 66721,9 100
Gabriel Davis 44412,5 81
Tyler Kroft 44515,6 242
Devin Singletary was efficient with his touches, and should have a strong hold of this backfield even when Zack Moss comes back. Josh Allen keeps spreading it around and that was evident with 3 total TDs to the two tight ends, which we can put no stock in at all. Diggs is still very good, and if John Brown misses time, Beasley and Davis are both intruiging flex plays.

Devante Parker 55525 69

Mike Gesicki 11315 151
Isaiah Ford 22210 14
Gaskin is what we expected Howard to be during draft season, except better, because he catches the ball. Gaskin is a great flex option for the bye weeks when they come. Devante Parker and Preston Williams are fine flex plays too, whilst Gesicki is a top12 TE, so you should start him weekly.

New England Patriots

Julian Edelman123621,4-123
Nkeal Harry123414,3234
Ryan Izzo   13,6
Don’t let the statlines fool you. This was a hyperefficient performance from Sony and Burkhead, and not something that’s likely to happen again any time soon. Burkhead is a good flex option for games that James White are out, but once he is back, Burkhead will fade back in to fantasy irrelevance. The fact that JJ Taylor had more carries than Michel tells you everything you need to know about this backfield: You cannot rely on them at all. A week after having 13 targets, Harry came crashing back down with a gameplan hugely centered around short dump offs to the Burkhead who saw a staggering X% target share.

As long as Crowder is out, you’re not starting any Jets players in fantasy. Not even against the Broncos on TNF. That’s it, that’s the take.

Tim Patrick 44410,5 431
KJ Hamler134513,2-230
The Bucs defense shut down the Broncos offense almost entirely, so I wouldn’t put much stock in this performance. We’re still waiting for Lindsay to return, to see what it means for the division of backfield touches. The passing game is Fant and Jeudy, and you can’t play anyone besides those two in fantasy right now from this pass catching group.

Demarcus Robinson   12,4
Travis Kelce 66717,1 87
Mecole Hardman 44614,6 811
Well, this was a Mahomes special, spreading the ball around. Hardman had a good game, but his snap share is still too low to trust him, so it’s still just the CEH, Tyreek and Kelce that we can start weekly.

Las Vegas Raiders

Zay Jones 3339,4 32
Hunter Renfrow 66928,1 841
Bryan Edwards 2239,4 48
Despite reports of Jacobs being limited in this game, he saw a good workload and did OK with it, in a game where the Patriots took away Waller and dared Carr to throw deep, which didn’t happen. Jacobs and Waller are still the only two you can start here.

Tyrod Taylor getting injured looks to be the best thing that could’ve happened for Ekeler, Henry and Allen’s fantasy value. Those three ARE the offense right now and HAS to be started, while Mike Williams (who left the game for a short while) was relegated to an observer.

Cohen is out for the season, which likely means more pass game work for Monty, so that’s a plus. Hopefully, Foles gets it and is just going to feed Robinson, like a player of his talent should be (Baker Mayfield should listen to this as well). And with Foles’ penchant for throwing to TEs, Graham could become a good play for the future.

Jesse James 33412,9
Bad news. This backfield is so confusing that I want nothing to do with it. Regardless of Peterson getting a bunch of carries, he is the least talented RB of the three. Good news is that Kenny G is back. Him being back, meant that Quintez Cephus fell back in fantasy irrelevance most as expected.

With Davante Adams out, I think we can safely say that Lazard grabbed the opportunity and has solidified his status as the #2 WR in this offense. And we had a Jace Sternberger sighting! The divison of labor for the RBs was exactly as expected, except that AJ Dillon didn’t get a single touch.

Jefferson balled out and showed why he’s a 1st round talent. We can’t expect another performance like this anytime soon, but he’s taken hold of the #2 WR spot and in worth an add. Mostly just Cook and Thielen who are start-worthy, until we see if Jefferson can stay fantasy relevant next week.

At this point in his career, Gurley looks old and is only getting what is blocked for him on 99% of his rushes. If Julio and Gage miss more time, hopefully Hayden Hurst is going to see a bump, otherwise, it might be time to look for another TE after week 4.

Curtis Samuel448414,3745

It was Mike Davis and not much else in this game. If the Panthers can’t get their best player (DJ Moore) more than 4 targets next week, with CMC being out, then I’m going to start to get worried. Robby Anderson still has flex appeal, and Mike Davis looks to be a must-start until CMC is back.

New Orleans Saints

Emmanuel Sanders 44514,3 561
Tre’Quan Smith 44617,1 42
Murray keeps getting touches, and he’s doing fairly well with them, although nothing special. In the meantime, Kamara is out there, going off, so there’s that. He’s your RB1 RoS, no question about it. The passing game looks mostly sluggish when going to the receivers, which is why Kamara is hogging most of the targets. Can’t wait for MT to get back.

OJ Howard 33411,1 49
Rob Gronkowski 66719,4 48
Scott Miller 33513,9 83
Gronk is alive! Gronkowski finally saw worthwhile targets in a game, whilst Mike Evans ended with the Jordan Howard-like statline of 2-2-2. Godwin looked good in his return, but sustained another injury which will keep him out for at least one game (most likely two). Look for Scotty Miller to somewhat fill that void, as he has looked good in limited action. Oh and don’t touch any of these RBs with a hot poker, because that backfield is so confusing, and one mistake by either RoJo or Fournette could easily mean no more playing time for the remainder of a game.

Another shootout for the ‘Boys, and for some reason, Cedrick Wilson became a thing in this game and exploded. I wouldn’t worry too much about him taking away targets and productions from the “big three” WRs, as he mostly played while Lamb looked to be nursing a small injury later in the game.

Until we’ve seen anyone do something from the RB position for the Giants, we’re not starting any of them. With Slayton and Tate they can be considered back end WR3s or WR4s going forward, at least until Jones starts playing better at QB. If you have Engram you need to start looking for other options.

Outside of Sanders, who is a must-start, Greg Ward should be in flex consideration with all the injuries that the Eagles (yet again) have sustained at WR. Zach Ertz is of course a TE you’re starting, especially now that Goedert is out.

Gibson basically did as well as he possibly could with the touches he was given, being quite efficient and finding the endzone. He has solidified himself as a good flex option. In the pass game you can only trust McLaurin. Logan Thomas keeps getting the targets, but with how poorly Haskins is playing, Thomas’ ceiling is capped quite close to his floor.

It’s a mystery to me why Keesean Johnson got 7 targets when you have Fitzgerald and Isabella running routes out there, but hey, the take away here is that Drake and Hopkins are still the dudes. With two good match ups coming, look for Drake to bounce back in a big way.

After getting behind early, the Rams came back and got robbed by the refs at the very end. Shameful. But enough of that. With Akers out, Henderson took a strong hold of this backfield, getting 21 touches to Browns 7, and for the 2nd week in a row, Henderson looked like the back we thought he would be in year 1, coming out of Memphis. He is the back to own right now for this team. Woods and Kupp are still the big dudes in this offense.

MetLife claimed another two victims, with injuries to Reed and McKinnon. Brandon Aiyuk looked good, but I wouldn’t put too much stock in that just yet, with Kittle and hopefully Deebo coming back this week or next week. McKinnon looked fine before he left and Jeff Wilson did all his dmg in the passing game as he was super inefficient as a runner.

Russ certainly has this Mr. Unlimited down to a tee at this point, coz right now there’s no one who can limit him. As usual, Lockett and DK got most of all the good stuff. DK made the dumpest mistake which cost like 15 fantasy points for his owners, so yeah….And with Chris Carson getting injured to a Trysten Hill “gator roll” after the play was over (Hill should be suspended coz that was the trashiest cheapshot I’ve ever seen on a football field), Hyde looks like a solid play in good match ups the next two weeks.
