Hello and welcome back! It’s Tuesday and time for the Top 12 Quarterback Plays for Week 6! Today we will be looking at the matchups that should help you determine which quarterback you should start to help you win your Week 6 matchup. The Jets, Falcons, Saints, and 49ers are on bye this week, but we still have a lot of options suiting up this week.
Before we dive in, just a piece of trivia headed into the Week 6 matchups. Can you name the team that has given up the fewest passing touchdowns and the team that has given up the fewest passing yards?
If you would have said the Panthers gave up the fewest passing yards you would be correct, as they have allowed just 808 passing yards through 5 games. The fewest touchdown passes allowed might surprise you, but it is the New York Jets, allowing opponents to score just 4 times through the air. Now let’s start looking at some of the Week 6 quarterbacks.
Top 12 Quarterback Plays for Week 6
Patrick Mahomes, KC at WAS
Patrick Mahomes has 1,490 yards passing through 5 games and a league-leading 16 touchdown passes. The Chiefs head to Washington to face off against the Football Team on Sunday. The Washington Football Team defense has allowed 1,467 yards passing, which is the sixth most yards allowed. They have also allowed 14 touchdown passes, second-most in the NFL.
Jalen Hurts, PHI vs TB (TNF)
Jalen Hurts and the Philadelphia Eagles will host the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Thursday Night Football. Hurts has 1,365 yards and 7 touchdowns passing so far this season. Tampa Bay has allowed a league-leading 1,572 yards and the third-most passing touchdowns in the NFL with 13. Hurts can beat you with his legs as well as he has rushed for 256 yards and 3 scores on 43 attempts through 5 games.
Tom Brady, TB at PHI (TNF)
Tom Brady enters Week 6 as the league leader in passing yards (1,767), attempts (225), and completions (149). He also has 15 touchdowns through the air. Brady and the Bucs head to Philadelphia on Thursday Night against the Eagles who have given up the third-fewest passing yards (974) but are tied in giving up the 7th most touchdowns (10).
Kyler Murray, ARI at CLE
Kyler Murray and the undefeated Cardinals will head to Cleveland to face the Browns on Sunday. The Browns have a decent defense. They allowed 1,116 yards passing (tenth best) and 10 touchdowns (tied for seventh most) so far this season. Murray has the ability to score on most defenses, and last week was the first time this season the Cardinals hadn’t scored 30 points. Murray has 1,512 yards and 10 scores passing and 3 more touchdowns on the ground.
Josh Allen, BUF at TEN (MNF)
The Sunday Night game against the Chiefs is the game we’ve been waiting to see from Josh Allen all year. The Tennessee Titans will host the Bills for a Week 6 matchup on Monday Night. Tennessee has given up 1,323 yards passing (twelfth most) and 9 scores (tied for thirteenth most). Allen has thrown for 1,370 yards and 13 scores on the season while adding 188 yards and 2 scores on the ground.
Matthew Stafford, LAR at NYG
Matthew Stafford and the Rams will head to MetLife Stadium to face the New York Giants for Week 6. The Giants have surrendered 1,351 yards (eleventh most) and 10 scores (tied for seventh most) in the air. The Rams have scored at least 20 points a game this season, and the Giants shouldn’t prevent them from that feat this week. Through 5 games, Stafford has at least 278 yards passing in each game. He has 1,587 yards and 12 scores on the season.
Joe Burrow, CIN at DET
Joe Burrow and the Bengals will head North to face the winless Detroit Lions on Sunday. Joe Burrow has thrown for 2 or more touchdowns in each of the first five games. Detroit has given up 1,258 yards (sixteenth most) and 8 scores (tied for fourteenth least) this season. Burrow has a bunch of good receiving options and should find success in the Motor City. On the season, Burrow has 11 touchdowns and 1,269 yards passing. Burrow will be questionable headed into the matchup due to a throat injury.
Lamar Jackson, BAL vs LAC
Lamar Jackson is coming off of his best game of the season. Against the Colts, he threw for 442 yards and 4 touchdowns while rushing for 62 yards. So far this season, Jackson has thrown for 1,518 yards and 8 scores. The Ravens will be hosting the Chargers on Sunday. The Chargers have given up 1,071 yards (seventh least) and 8 touchdowns (tied for 14th least). Even though the Chargers defense has been stout this season, we can expect Jackson to make plays with his legs, too.
Davis Mills, HOU at IND
The Colts rooke, Davis Mills, makes a surprising visit to the Top 12 Quarterback Plays for Week 6. He came in and played Week 2 against the Browns, then the Panthers, Bills, and last week the Patriots. Welcome to the NFL, Mr. Mills. The Colts have a banged up secondary and Mills is coming off a 312 yard passing and 3 touchdown performance. So far, the Colts’ secondary gave up 1,323 yards (thirteenth most) and 15 scores (most).
Justin Herbert, LAC vs BAL
Justin Herbert and the Chargers will be traveling to Baltimore to face the Ravens on Sunday. Herbert has thrown for 1,576 yards and 13 touchdowns this season. The Ravens have given up 1,482 yards (tied for fourth most) and 8 scores (tied for fourteenth least). The Chargers have scored at least 17 points and Herbert has thrown for at least 222 yards in each game.
Aaron Rodgers, GB at CHI
Aaron Rodgers and the Packers were able to sneak one out in Cincinnati. In Week 6, they will be headed to Chicago to face off in one of the most historic rivalries in the NFL. Rodgers has thrown for 1,241 yards and 10 scores in 2021, whereas the Bears have given up 1,143 yards (twelfth least) and 8 touchdowns (fourteenth least). Against the Bears, Rodgers has averaged 241 yards and 2.2 touchdowns in 25 games.
Mac Jones, NE vs DAL
Mac Jones will round out our list of Top 12 Quarterback Plays for Week 6. He and the Patriots will face off against the Dallas Cowboys. The Cowboys are giving up 1,555 yards (second most) and 10 touchdowns (tied for seventh most) through 5 weeks. Jones has thrown at least one touchdown and 230 yards in 4 of the 5 games the Patriots have played this season. The Dallas defense can be vulnerable, and Jones should be able to take advantage of it.
