Week 2 is in the books and you know what that means–it’s time for the top 12 quarterback plays for Week 3! There was a total of 40 passing touchdowns in Week 2, led by Tom Brady’s 5 scores against the Atlanta Falcons, and then Aaron Rodgers had 4 touchdown passes against the Detroit Lions on Monday Night Football. Who will be leading the way in Week 3? Let’s take a look!
Top 12 Quarterback Plays for Week 3
1 Kyler Murray, ARI vs JAX
Kyler Murray started the 2021 campaign with 689 yards and 7 touchdowns through the air. Murray and the Cardinals will be heading to Jacksonville to take on the Jaguars on Sunday. Murray has been beating teams through the air so far in this young season, but he can beat teams with his feet too, as has also added 51 yards and 2 more scores rushing. Jacksonville is rebuilding, and 4 passing touchdowns with 320 yards and 40 rushing yards would not surprise me coming from Kyler Murray.
2 Matthew Stafford, LAR vs TB
Old face, new place. Matthew Stafford has benefited from leaving Detriot and moving to LA. The Rams have given us a few good receiving options in Cooper Kupp, Robert Woods, Van Jefferson, and Tyler Higbee. They have also given him one of, if not the best, offensive lines he has ever played behind, so he hasn’t been as rushed and can let plays develop. That has resulted in 599 passing yards and 5 scores through the first 5 games. Stafford and company will host Tom Brady and the Buccaneers on Sunday. Tampa Bay is one of the worst teams against the pass, so seeing Stafford throw for 350 yards and 3 touchdowns is in the realm of possibility.
3 Tom Brady, TB at LAR
Through the first 2 weeks of the regular season, Tom Brady has 9 passing touchdowns. I’m sure you are aware of all the weapons that he has on offense. By the way Tampa Bay has started, they look tough to beat. On the flip side, they started against the Dallas Cowboys and Atlanta Falcons. The Cowboys are pretty bad against the pass, and Atlanta’s defense isn’t great either. Brady is facing a tough Rams defense in Week 3, but shouldn’t have too much trouble putting up numbers with Mike Evans, Antonio Brown, Chris Godwin, and Rob Gronkowski just to name a few. I could see Brady throwing for 300 yards and 3 scores against this Rams defense.
4 Patrick Mahomes, KC vs LAC
The fourth quarterback in my top 12 quarterback plays for Week 3 is Patrick Mahomes. Mahomes is one of the players that has made a home on this list. After Week 2, Mahomes has 680 yards passing and 6 scores, and he also added a touchdown rushing against the Browns. The Chiefs started off this season against the Browns and Ravens–two of the worst teams against the pass. They will face the Chargers in Week 3, which is one of the best teams against quarterbacks. As long as Mahomes has Hill and Kelce, I can say that he won’t throw for under 300 yards and 3 scores on Sunday.
5 Russell Wilson, SEA at MIN
After facing off against the Colts and Titans to start the season, Russell Wilson has 597 yards and 6 scores. Russell Wilson has found wide receiver Tyler Lockett for 3 of those scores. On Sunday, the Seahawks will head to Minnesota to face the Vikings who are not good against the pass. Look for Wilson to connect not just with Lockett, but also wide receiver DK Metcalf and tight end Gerald Everett in Minnesota. 280 yards and 3 touchdowns versus Minnesota is what I can see from Wilson. The only question is how many rushing yards and scores he will have?
6 Jalen Hurts, PHI at DAL
The sixth player of the top 12 quarterback plays for Week 3 is Jalen Hurts. Hurts has 454 yards and 3 scores through the air. He also has 144 yards and a touchdown on the ground, and his lowest rushing total is 62 yards in against Atlanta in Week 1. The Eagles fly south to face the Cowboys on Monday Night Football. Jalen Hurts will look to take advantage of the bad Dallas pass defense and use his feet to pick up some first downs as well. Jalen Hurts should throw for 3 scores while collecting 250 yards in the air and adding another 70 yards on the ground.
7 Lamar Jackson, BAL at DET
Lamar Jackson can be an enigma. After 2 games, he has 474 yards and 2 touchdowns passing. He also added 193 yards rushing and 2 scores on the ground. Week 1 was kind of disappointing for Jackson with him amassing 235 yards and 1 score in the air and 86 yards rushing. In Week 2 he had the same results through the air, with 239 yards and 1 score. On the ground versus the Chiefs, he ran for 107 yards and 2 scores. Against Detroit, Lamar could end up passing for 250 yards passing and 2 touchdowns while adding 80 yards rushing and 1 score.
8 Jared Goff, DET vs BAL
Jared Goff and the Lions will host the Baltimore Ravens for a Week 3 matchup on Sunday. Through the first two weeks, Goff has 584 yards and 5 scores. The Ravens are bad against the pass and Goff will look to Hockenson, D’Andre Swift, Jamaal Williams, and his wide receivers to get the ball downfield. The Lions like to run the ball, so I am not expecting Goff to throw for over 300 yards unless they fall behind early. I believe Goff will throw for 280 yards and 2 scores.
9 Aaron Rodgers, GB at SF
Aaron Rodgers bounced back in Week 2 after a disappointing Week 1 versus the Saints. Against the Saints, he threw for 133 yards and 2 interceptions. In Week 2 against the Lions, Rodgers tossed 4 touchdowns and gathered 255 passing yards. Three of those scores went to running back Aaron Jones. Week 3, Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers head to San Francisco to face the 49ers. Aaron Rodgers could throw for 250 yards and 3 scores on Sunday.
10 Derek Carr, LV vs MIA
The tenth player of the top 12 quarterback plays for Week 3 is the league leader in passing yards. Yes, Derek Carr leads the NFL in passing yards through 2 weeks. He has 817 yards in the air. In second is Kyler Murray with 689 yards. Carr also has 4 scores to go with those 817 yards. Carr and the Raiders will host the Miami Dolphins in Week 3. The Dolphins have a better pass defense than Baltimore and the Steelers, and Carr is banged up. If Carr plays, I would expect him to throw for 2 touchdowns and 330 yards.
11 Josh Allen, BUF vs WAS
Josh Allen has had a slow start to start the season. He has just 449 yards passing and 3 scores combined with only 79 yards rushing and no scores. The past couple of seasons, Allen was able to help fantasy managers with his rushing stats along with his passing. The Bills will host the team with no name (Washington Football Team) on Sunday. Washington has a good defensive line but has given up points rushing so far this season. This could be the game where Allen gets back on track and throws for 270 yards passing with 2 scores while rushing for 60 yards and another score.
12 Daniel Jones, NYG vs ATL
You see that right; the final entry to the top 12 quarterback plays for Week 3 is Daniel Jones. Jones so far has 516 yards passing and 2 scores, while he has also rushed for 122 yards and another 2 scores. The impressive stat for Jones heading into Week 3 is that he has only 1 turnover. On Sunday, the Giants will host the Falcons who have been beaten up by Jalen Hurts and Tom Brady for the first 2 weeks of the season. Daniel Jones could end up with 250 yards passing and 2 scores while adding 45 yards rushing.
