Three Kickers to Stream Week 2

Welcome back to our Three Kickers to Stream article series for Week 2 of the 2021 season! For those who are unaware, “stream” or “streaming” refers to starting a player in lieu of a regular starter on your fantasy football squad. Usually this is needed by having no other option, whereas one of your players are hurt or on bye. However, sometimes you can may choose to stream a kicker as a general season-long strategy, or if the matchup/situation is better than your regular starter.

Before I get any further, I must say… KICKERS ARE IMPORTANT! Yes, they can be fluky at times. Yes, they typically score about the same amount of points at the end of the season. However, there are some factors that should be looked at on a week to week basis on which kickers to start any given week for your fantasy team. For example, is the game being played in favorable weather, or better yet, in a dome? Is the game going to be high scoring? Does the team typically go for it on 4th down or do they have a more conservative approach? All of these factors should be considered when choosing your weekly kicker.

Each week I will be bringing you the top three kickers to stream in your leagues. The goal of my streams is to identify a positive situation in the current week to help you get that all important “W.”

1. Evan McPherson – Cincinnati Bengals

Kicking off our Week 2 streams this week (see what I did there?) is rookie kicker Evan McPherson for the Cincinnati Bengals. McPherson was perfect in his first NFL game, making both field goals attempted and all three extra points. The field goals were especially very impressive because the first one was a booming 53 yard field goal that went well over the crossbar, and the second was a walk-off game winning field goal in overtime.

This week, the Bengals head to Chicago to play against the Chicago Bears at Soldier Field in what should be a competitive game. I expect many scoring opportunities for the Bengals and in turn, McPherson.

Evan McPherson already showed in his first professional game that he can kick well, and that’s why he tops the list for kickers to stream in Week 2 because it wouldn’t surprise me if he continues to get even better. With that said, I wouldn’t expect to play him in Week 3, because that week the Bengals travel to Pittsburgh against one the best defenses in the league.

2. Jason Myers – Seattle Seahawks

The next kicker stream for Week 2 is Jason Myers of the Seattle Seahawks. He was a kicker that was recommended to stream last week, but unfortunately did not get an opportunity to kick a field goal. Even still, he did convert all four of his extra points and at least salvaged his outing for 4 fantasy points.

The Seahawks face off Week 2 against the Tennessee Titans, who in Week 1 allowed a whopping 38 points to the Arizona Cardinals. Jason Myers should have more opportunities next week in a high-flying Seahawk offense.

As an added incentive, in Week 3 the Seahawks face the Vikings in a dome for what should be a great streaming game as well. Do not let an unfortunate Week 1 game-script keep you from using Myers this week, who again should be in a good spot to put up more points this week.

3. Chris Boswell – Pittsburgh Steelers

Another kicker who was perfect in Week 1 was Chris Boswell of the Pittsburgh Steelers. The offense struggled to get the ball in the endzone in Buffalo, which ultimately benefitted Boswell as he was able to convert 3 of 3 field goals and also tacked on two extra points.

Things should ease up this week when the Pittsburgh Steelers host Las Vegas at home at Heinz Field. The Raiders are not nearly as good on defense as the Buffalo Bills, and this should lead to even more scoring opportunities for the Steelers as a whole.

The only pause for concern is if the Steelers are so good on offense they only score touchdowns and do not need to kick the ball for field goals. However, field goal opportunities are tough to predict, so it is best to just consider it should be a good game for the Steelers offense. That’s why Chris Boswell makes our list and is a solid option with great Week 2 potential.
