CJ Stroud Dynasty Rookie Profile

High School

Hailing out of Rancho Cucamonga in California, CJ Stroud attended his local high school: Rancho Cucamonga High School. In high school, CJ Stroud earned awards in both 2019 and 2020, because of his impressive play.

After initially being considered a 3-star recruit, Stroud made strides and ended up being a 4-star recruit according to 247 Sports. CJ decided to commit to playing college football for Ohio State University.

College

CJ Stroud’s college career started as a backup to now-NFL QB Justin Fields in 2020. After Fields moved on to the NFL CJ Stroud won the competition for the starting QB job and never looked back. In two seasons as the starter for OSU Football, Stroud passed for 7,775 yards and 81 touchdowns with just 12 interceptions on 796 pass attempts.

The very impressive stats do need a bit of context, however. Throughout his college career, CJ Stroud has had NFL-caliber play at the wide receiver position. He has had Chris Olave, Garrett Wilson (both of whom were very good as rookie WRs in the NFL), Jaxon Smith-Njigba (widely considered the best WR in this rookie draft class), and Marvin Harrison Jr. (son of Hall of Famer Marvin Harrison, and currently the consensus best WR in college football before the 2023 season).

After two very productive seasons as the starter at OSU, CJ Stroud has decided to enter the 2023 NFL Draft.

NFL

CJ Stroud has been through the wringer this offseason leading up to the NFL Draft. Since the Carolina Panthers traded up to the #1 draft spot at the beginning of March, CJ Stroud was the frontrunner to be selected first overall. Now, the rumors are that Stroud might be slipping for various reasons and that he might not even be selected in the top 3 of the 2023 Draft.

Regardless of where Stroud ends up, he needs to improve his playmaking ability outside of the structure. When the play breaks down and Stroud needs to extend the play and make something happen, he has historically struggled. But CJ Stroud is also the most accurate quarterback in this draft, and he is the most pro-ready of the QB prospect that is entering the NFL this season.

Stroud is a prototypical build for an NFL QB, with a strong arm and elite accuracy. He should be able to start and produce right away for fantasy, although he is going to have to adjust to the speed of the NFL.
