The NFL has suspended Jets TE Chris Herndon four games for violating the league’s substance abuse policy.
Herndon was preparing for the suspension as a result of his DUI arrest last June. A four games suspension is likely a longer ban than he was anticipating. The potentail suspensions had previously been reported to be a two-game suspension.
The Jets have a bye in Week 4, so Herndon won’t be eligible to return until Week 6 against Dallas. Daniel Brown and Trevon Wesco are candidates to fill in at tight end during Herndon’s absence, neither should be considered fantasy relevant.
Herndon, whose four touchdowns a year ago tied for the most among rookie tight ends, plans to appeal. In the end this is likely going to end up the two-game ban he was anticipating.
