Here at RotoHeat, I strive to deliver as much helpful information as I can to help you all have successful individual defensive player rosters and win a couple championships along the way. I am going to give you some Week 4 IDP players to watch this weekend. These guys are lower in the rankings, but are my soon to be break out players. Check out my opinions and facts on the following players, and who knows, maybe you will pick them up before this weekend’s games.
Defensive End to Watch – Patrick Johnson – Philadelphia Eagles
Patrick Johnson is a rookie who was drafted in the 7th round out of Tulane. Johnson has played in all 3 games of this rookie season. Week 1 gave him 7 snaps which was good for 10% of the defensive snaps where he recorded 1 solo tackle. He showed well enough to double his snaps to 13 snaps in Week 2 for 19% of the snaps. In those snaps, Johnson recorded 2 assisted tackles. His performance then got him more snaps in Week 3, as he played 28 snaps for 37% of the defensive plays and recorded 3 solo tackles. If Johnson increases his snap count and tackle count again in Week 4, it will be time to spend some FAAB on him!
Linebacker to Watch – Damien Wilson – Jacksonville Jaguars
At 28 years old. Damien Wilson is a 7th year linebacker. Wilson was drafted in the 4th round of the 2015 NFL Draft by the Dallas Cowboys. After getting on the field for about 1/2 of the plays for the Cowboys in their 4 years together, Wilson signed with the Kansas City Chiefs. Wilson played 2 years there and had an average of 77 tackles per year. 2021 is his first year with the Jaguars and is starting to make his mark in his first 3 games. Game 1 gave him 7 tackles with 1 solo on 77% of the snaps. Wilson took a step back in Week 2 with 55% of the defensive snaps, but still had 6 tackles with 3 solo. Last week in Week 3, Wilson had a very nice game with 9 tackles in which 6 were solo. Wilson also had his highest snap count at 85%. Do you want to take the chance that he steps back, or do you trust that Wilson will keep improving?
Safety to Watch – Xavier McKinney – New York Giants
Xavier McKinney is a 2nd year safety that was drafted last year in the 2nd round out of Alabama. McKinney just turned 22 years old. A fractured foot limited McKinney to just 6 games last year. McKinney started the first game this year and played 95% of the snaps. McKinney only produced 3 solo tackles in those 63 snaps. This performance did not impress the coaches, so for the 2nd game, McKinney came off the bench and played just 55% of the snaps. McKinney did produce 3 more tackles in that game, but only 1 was a solo. Week 3 was a different result though, as McKinney’s wake up call got him the start again with 98% of the snaps. McKinney turned those 61 snaps into 6 tackles of which 5 were solo. Do not pick him up yet, but definitely watch him! He will be a star soon.
