We have reached the third week of the NFL season, making it time for your weekly Top 12 for tight ends. The most important things for TEs are targets and TDs, so these are the two parameters I will look at the most, together with the matchup. Here are your Top 12 Tight End Plays of Week 3.

Top 12 Tight End Plays of Week 3

1. Travis Kelce, KC vs. Los Angeles Chargers

Yep. You guessed it. It’s another week where Travis Kelce is atop the rankings for Top 12 Tight End Plays of Week 3. It’s hard to debate it being otherwise when he averages 7+ targets on a weekly basis on what is probably the best offense in the league.

2. Darren Waller, LV vs. Miami

After 2 weeks, Waller leads the league in targets, which makes him an auto play in your lineup and a definite lock for #2 on the Top 12 Tight End Plays of Week 3. He is such a large part of the offense for the Raiders that you never sit him, and most weeks he is going to be posting wide receiver numbers in your tight end spot.

3. TJ Hockenson, DET vs. Baltimore

Speaking of someone who gets a lot of targets, TJ Hockenson has climbed the ranks and now finds himself in the top 3. Through 2 weeks, Hockenson has shown that he belongs in the conversation of the top tight ends, and that he is basically match up proof at this point given the targets he is receiving on a weekly basis and what he is doing with those targets.

4. George Kittle, SF vs. Green Bay

Kittle currently finds himself outside of TE1 territory, but he has plenty of season left to make up for that. Right now, he is not seeing as many targets per game as previous seasons, which is likely in part due to Deebo Samuels emergence as the #1 target in the 49er’s offense, at least for the time being (he has a 36% target share currently). Kittle could very well already start finding his way back in Week 3 against the Packers who allow the fourth most points to opposing TEs.

5. Rob Gronkowski, TB vs. Los Angeles Rams

Gronk has been a touchdown-machine to begin the season, and even though the Rams might seem like a tough match-up on paper, they are middle of the pack when it comes to giving up fantasy points to TEs. Given how much Brady looks for Gronk, especially in the red zone, he needs to be in your lineup.

6. Noah Fant, DEN vs. New York Jets

Getting Teddy Bridgewater at QB looks like it has rejuvenated this offense, at least relative to Drew Lock. Fant has been doing well as a borderline TE1 through 2 weeks of the NFL season, and it’s unlikely to change in Week 3. He can get you both yards and touchdowns, meaning he can score you fantasy points in a variety of ways.

7. Kyle Pitts, ATL. vs New York Giants

Pitts comes back on the list for Top 12 Tight End Plays of Week 3 after being absent in Week 2. He is seeing the targets, and in Week 2, he showed flashes of what he can do with them, which is a lot more than he did in Week 1. At this pace Pitts should be a solid TE1 weekly.

8. Mark Andrews, BAL vs. Kansas City

Andrews has yet to impress this season. He has had the same number of targets per game as last season (around 5 per game), but his big draw has been his end zone prowess. Against Detroit, he could get back up on the proverbial horse against a Lions defense which allowed a TE to score in Week 2.

9. Dallas Goedert, PHI vs. Dallas

After a good Week 1, Goedert and the Eagles offense came crashing down to Earth against the 49ers in Week 2. In Week 3, Goedert has a good match-up against the Cowboys, who are allow the seventh most points to opposing TEs. This should make him a good play.

10. Robert Tonyan, GB vs. San Francisco

Tonyan got back on the board in Week 2 after being part of the Green Bay disappearing act in Week 1. The 49ers give up the ninth most points to TEs, making for another possible upside week for Tonyan. With Aaron Rodgers looking like his old self again, Tonyan could end up hitting big.

11. Logan Thomas, WFT vs. Buffalo

With Fitzpatrick out, Taylor Heinicke got the start at QB for WFT and that lead to a just above average outing for Logan Thomas. Outside the top 10 at TE, it starts to become a mish-mash of average Andys, but Thomas stands out with what is likely to be about 5-6 targets weekly, which is often good enough to be a TE1.

12. Jared Cook, LAC vs. Kansas City

Cook has yet to find the end zone, which is usually what he needs to be a TE1 for the week, but in a matchup against the Chiefs, the Chargers likely need to keep up, which could mean more targets than usual for Cook (he got a solid 5 targets in Week 2). If he gets a TD, that’s all you need for him to be a TE1 on the week.
