Hello and Happy Holidays! Welcome to the Top 12 Running Back Plays for Week 12. Week 11 saw a couple of huge performances by Jonathan Taylor and Austin Ekeler, as their combined 9 touchdowns helped lead their NFL teams to victory. Hopefully, you didn’t have to face either of them last week. This week we will have some decent matchups for running backs, not on Thursday’s Thanksgiving 3 game slate as much but Sunday’s contents are where we will be mostly focusing our attention. Let’s take a look at some of the possible top running back plays.
Top 12 Running Back Plays for Week 12
Christian McCaffrey at MIA
Probably not who most people would be expecting to start off the list of top 12 running back plays for Week 12. But, CMC had a decent game against the Washington Football Team in Week 11. In his first start with Cam Newton, McCaffrey had 59 yards rushing, caught 7 passes for 60 yards and a score. While these are eye-popping numbers we’d expect from CMC, it was only his second game back since returning from injury. The Panthers play the Miami Dolphins in Week 12. Miami has allowed 1195 yards and 9 touchdowns rushing.
Nick Chubb at BALT (SNF)
Nick Chubb has rushed for over 84 yards in 7 of the 8 games he has played this season. Chubb has 851 yards and 6 touchdowns in those 8 games, while averaging a league leading 6.0 yards per carry average. The Browns will head to Maryland to face the Ravens for a Week 12 Sunday Night Football matchup. The Ravens have allowed the 2nd fewest yards to this point in the season with 886 yards but they have given up 10 touchdowns. Look for the Browns to get Nick Chubb involved in the offense as Kareem Hunt will still be inactive and Baker Mayfield banged up.
Jonathan Taylor vs TB
Jonathan Taylor rushed for 185 yards and had 5 total touchdowns against the Buffalo Bills. Taylor also took over as the leader in the NFL for rushing yards with 1122 and rushing touchdowns with 13. He is averaging 102 yards oer game heading into the Colts’ Week 12 matchup against the Buccaneers. Tampa Bay has allowed the fewest rushing yards in the NFL with 784 yards and 6 scores on the ground. Jonathan Taylor is one of the better running backs in the NFL, but this is one of the toughest matchups he will face all year.
D’Andre Swift vs CHI (Thurs)
After not rushing for more than 55 yards in the first 8 games of the season, D’Andre Swift rushed for 130 or more yards in the past 2 games. Against Cleveland, Swift ran for 136 yards and a touchdown, it was also the first time all season that he didn’t record a reception. The Detroit Lions will host the Chicago Bears for the Lions’ traditional Thanksgiving Day game. The Bears have allowed 1228 yards and 10 touchdowns on the ground to opponents this season.
Austin Ekeler at DEN
Austin Ekeler scored 4 touchdowns in the Chargers’ game against the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday night. He run for 50 yards and caught 6 passes for 65 yards. In 10 games, Ekeler has ran for 573 yards, has 45 receptions for 405 yards, and has 13 total touchdowns. In Week 12, the Chargers will be traveling to Denver on Sunday. The Denver Broncos have given up 1101 yards and 6 touchdowns on the ground to opposing running backs.
Joe Mixon vs PIT
Joe Mixon ran for 123 yards and 2 touchdowns against the Raiders. Mixon also has 7 touchdowns in the last 4 games the Bengals have played. He has 759 yards and 9 touchdowns on the ground, while adding 22 receptions for 194 yards and 2 scores in the passing game. Mixon hasn’t been as involved in the passing game as much, but he has already scored more touchdowns through 10 games than any other season in his NFL career. The Steelers have given up 1266 yards and 8 scores this season.
Najee Harris at CIN
Pittsburgh Steelers rookie running back Najee Harris has 685 yards and 5 scores. He also has added 49 receptions for 337 yards and 2 more touchdowns. Harris has 3 games where he has topped 100 yards. Ha ran for 122 yards against Denver, he had 105 yards rushing versus Detroit, and he had 102 yards receiving the first time the Steelers played the Bengals in Week 3. The Bengals have allowed the 4th fewest rushing yards in the NFL with 980 yards along with 9 scores.
Dalvin Cook at SF
Dalvin Cook has had a slow start to the season. He has 3 games of over 100 yards rushing and 2 more of 80 yards or more. He has only 734 yards and 4 touchdowns on the ground while adding 21 receptions for 138 yards receiving. He did miss a couple of games due to an injury. The Vikings have relied more on Kirk Cousins and the passing game to get them to 5-5. The Vikings will be traveling to San Francisco to face the 49ers in Week 13. The 49ers have allowed 1159 yards and 13 touchdowns to opponents on the ground in 2021.
David Montgomery at DET (Thurs)
David Montgomery has only played 6 games this season and he has 430 yards and 3 touchdowns rushing and 9 receptions for 75 yards. Montgomery has only 2 games where he was able to rush for more than 100 yards. One of which was the first time this season that the Bears faced the Lions. The Bears will face the Lions in Detroit on Thanksgiving for a Week 12 matchup. When the Bears faced the Lions earlier this season, Montgomery rushed for 106 yards and 2 touchdowns. Detroit has given up the second most yards rushing this season with 1405 yards and 11 touchdowns.
Saquon Barkley vs PHI
Saquon Barkley has had a season he would like to forget. In 6 games, he rushed for 220 yards and 2 touchdowns. He also has caught 20 passes for 161 yards and another score. The New York Giants fired offensive coordinator Jason Garrett on Tuesday after the offense was struggling most of the season. The Giants will host the Eagles in Week 12. The Eagles’ defense has allowed 1282 yards and 12 touchdowns this season.
Damien Harris vs TEN
Damien Harris has 603 yards and 7 touchdowns rushing. He has been averaging 4.2 yards per carry for the Patriots. Harris has 3 games of over 100 yards rushing. The Patriots have been rushing the ball more with rookie quarterback Mac Jones under helm. In Week 12, the Patriots will be taking on the Tennessee Titans on Sunday. Tennessee has allowed 1069 yards and 11 scores this season.
Tony Pollard vs LV (Thurs)
Tony Pollard and the Cowboys will be hosting the Las Vegas Raiders on Thanksgiving in Week 12. Pollard has 495 yards and a score rushing, and has caught 25 receptions for 224 yards. I perferred Pollard over Ezekiel Elliott for 2 reasons. First, Zeke has been limping off the field a lot recently and the second is that the Cowboys could very well get up early and pulled Zeke. The Raiders have been struggling since Jon Gruden had to resign and the Henry Ruggs car accident. The Raiders have allowed 1321 yards and 10 touchdowns rushing this season.
