Streaming is a fantasy football strategy that fantasy managers use when they don’t have a starter on their rosters that they trust entering any particular week during the fantasy season. For those that participate in leagues with the kicker position and defense/special teams (DST), this is a fairly common practice. Streaming, however, is not limited to the kicker and DST. At times, fantasy managers can employ this tactic for any of the skilled player positions. Streaming requires league managers to manage their roster and make waiver wire moves weekly.
Matchups are a driving force behind streaming at all positions, and the tight end is no exception. If you waited until late in your draft to acquire a tight end or dislike a certain matchup, then streaming may very well be your best bet. Each week I will bring you my top 3 weekly streamers at the TE position. The goal is to identify a positive matchup for you to exploit, and as always, win your fantasy matchup. Let’s dive into Three Tight Ends to Stream Week 7!
Zach Ertz vs Houston Texans
The Arizona Cardinals will be hosting the Houston Texans in Week 7. Through 6 weeks of the 2021 NFL Season, the Texans are allowing the most points against opposing tight ends. Houston has allowed an average of 17.7 PPG and 8.1 targets per game to their opposition’s tight ends. Not only are tight ends exposing the Texans’ poor defense, but the range of outcomes has been consistent in each game. So far tight ends have scored 20, 21.7, 8.3, 22.5, 24.2, and 9. That is the kind of consistency we love to see in our weekly fantasy football matchups.
Maxx Williams was starting to perform well in the Cardinals’ offense before going down with a season-ending knee injury. Arizona didn’t waste any time finding Williams’ replacement for the rest of the season by trading for Zach Ertz last Thursday. The veteran tight end will likely be thrown right into a major role this week. I love to stream tight ends in good offenses or good matchups, and this is the perfect combination of the two.
Hunter Henry vs New York Jets
Hunter Henry and the New England Patriots will be playing at home this week, as the New York Jets come to Foxborough for their Week 7 matchup. The Jets have been very up and down against the tight end position this season. However, in their last game, the Jets surrendered 16 receptions, 189 yards, and 2 touchdowns to the Falcons’ tight ends. I think the Patriots will see how Pitts and Hurst exploited the Jets’ defense and will similarly utilize Jonnu and Henry.
Hunter Henry is now the TE9 on the season and is averaging 10.6 PPG. Henry will be looking to keep his touchdown streak alive, as he has found paydirt in the last 3 games. Mac Jones and Henry seem to be building rapport when the Patriots get into the RedZone, and I am hoping that continues into their Week 7 matchup.
Ross Dwelley vs Indianapolis Colts
The San Francisco 49ers will be staying home in Week 7 for their matchup against the Indianapolis Colts. The Colts have given up 16.4 PPG and 7.5 targets per game to opposing tight ends through 6 weeks this season. Outside of their Week 2 matchup with the Rams, the worst performance against the Colts has been 8.7 points. This will likely be one of the slower games in Week 7, as both teams prefer to run the ball. In addition, the Colts’ secondary has shown it can be exploited by the tight end position.
With George Kittle being placed on Injured Reserve before the 49ers’ Week 5 game, Dwelley was on the field for 59 of a possible 65 snaps. Dwelley only saw 2 targets in that contest, but when playing 90% of the offensive snaps, it’s easy to see his number of targets increasing for Week 7. If you’re in a deep league and neither of my first two options are available on the waiver wire, I like streaming Dwelley in Week 7.
