Three Quarterbacks to Stream Week 2
Welcome back to our Three Quarterbacks to Stream article series for Week 2 of the 2021 season! For those who are unaware, “stream” or “streaming” refers to starting a player in lieu of a regular starter on your fantasy football squad. Usually this is needed by having no other option, whereas one of your players are hurt or on bye. However, sometimes you may choose to stream a quarterback as a general season-long strategy, or if the matchup/situation is better than your regular starter.
Especially in 1QB leagues, quarterbacks are streamed relatively frequently because each manager in a fantasy league only needs to start one QB, and generally half of said teams only roster a backup. This generally leaves a number of good quarterbacks available on waiver wires for managers to pick up in a pinch or when a matchup is almost “too good to be true!”
Each week I will be bringing you the top three quarterbacks to stream in your leagues. The goal of these articles is to identify a positive matchup in the current week to help you get that all important “W.”
1. Jameis Winston – New Orleans Saints
The first two QB streams this week were both featured in my article last week for Week 1. First to discuss is Jameis Winston who just upset the Green Bay Packers at a neutral site in Jacksonville.
Jameis Winston proved on Sunday why he won the starting job in New Orleans for the Saints. Throwing for five touchdowns and no interceptions, Winston sliced and diced at will against the Packers defense. Granted, he only completed 14 of 20 passes for 148 yards. He also added 39 yards on the ground which will ultimately add to his value by having a higher floor moving forward.
This week, Jameis Winston and the Saints take on the Carolina Panthers in Charlotte. With a solid rushing floor, and proving he can throw the ball effectively, Jameis Winston should be able to put up big numbers next week. That’s why he tops my list for the best QB streams of Week 2.
2. Sam Darnold – Carolina Panthers
The next QB on the list for QB streams in Week 2 is none other than Sam Darnold. Darnold, who topped the list last week in Week 1, did not disappoint.
Completing 24 passes for 279 yards and one throwing touchdown, Darnold looked like a legit starting quarterback against an underrated NFL defense in the Jets. Darnold also added another score on the ground with his legs. Without a doubt, Darnold benefitted greatly from having playmakers on his team that he just flat out didn’t have during his tenure in New York for the Jets.
This week, Sam Darnold and the Carolina Panthers face off at home against the New Orleans Saints. I expect another solid outing from Sam Darnold who will look to build upon his solid Week 1 performance.
3. Ben Roethlisberger – Pittsburgh Steelers
Week 1 was not the kindest to “Big Ben.” Playing in Buffalo, Roethlisberger only threw for 188 yards and one score. He was sacked twice, but he did not throw a pick. Even still, I expect a bounce back game for Roethlisberger in Week 2.
The Steelers take on the Las Vegas Raiders this week and will be at home in Pittsburgh. The Raiders defense is nowhere near as talented as the Buffalo Bills. The Steelers are relatively at full health on the offensive side of the ball and should be able to score almost at will versus a very exploitable defense.
Coming off the disjointed and disappointing Week 1 performance, “Big Ben” Roethlisberger is poised to put up big numbers this week. That’s why he makes the list for one of he three QBs to stream in Week 2.
