NFL Week 4 IDP Waiver Wire Adds

Each week in fantasy football there are surprise performances and there are injures. When looking at these, along with evolving team situations, we can find players it would make sense to add to your roster if you have room to wait and see (as we know these are often fluid situations), or are looking for a positional boost.

*Please note: Players listed are in no particular order for add preference. Any player rankings are based off the RotoHeat IDP Scoring that you can find here.

Below are the RotoHeat IDP Team’s IDP waiver wire add suggestions going into Week 4.

3. Linebackers

Kyle Van Noy

Kyle Van Noy, Linebacker, Miami Dolphins
Ownership: Fleaflicker 41%, Yahoo 3%

Through three games this year he has 10 solos, 2 assists, 2 TFL, 2 sacks, 2 forced fumbles, 1 recovered fumble and 1 pass deflection, good for LB8 currently. Fellow Miami linebacker Jerome Baker is currently LB6, so you can see that thus far this year, there has been enough work for both to be busy, and productive for fantasy purposes. Van Noy (64%, 95% and 79% of defensive snaps) and has not played as much as Baker, but with 14, 8 and 13 points so far this year in the three weeks, he is clearly the #2 linebacker to own in Miami and looks to be providing a decent floor.

Eric Wilson, Linebacker, Minnesota Vikings
Ownership: FleaFlicker 24%, Yahoo 1%

Currently the other, lesser known Eric linebacker for the Vikings, Eric Wilson has been received decent playing time (56%, 92% and 100%) and producing with it (LB20 with 28.50 points). 12 solos, 3 assists, 2 TFL, 1 PD, 1 INT and 1 forced fumbled are what he’s produced this year, as the only Viking linebacker that’s been with the team for the offseason and isn’t injured. Anthony Barr and Troy Dye are on IR, and Ryan Connelly and Todd Davis were just recently signed. I wouldn’t be using a waiver priority or FAAB to get him, but if you need LB help, he’s giving you a decent floor right now.

Ty Summers, Linebacker, Green Bay Packers
Ownership: FleaFlicker 1%, Yahoo 0%

A veritable “Who?” was heard from many Green Bay Packers fans on Sunday night when Summers took over for Christian Kirksey, who was once again injured. This is a situation to monitor, as if Kirksey is out for awhile, which appears to be a distinct possibility as Kirksey was quickly ruled out Sunday night, Summers seems like the next man up (he had a 72% snap share). He wasn’t great in relief of Kirksey, which could lead to someone else taking over, but 6 solos and 3 assists is nice stat line for a player getting his defensive snaps this year. Krys Barnes and Oren Burks are two other names to monitor leading up to Monday Night Football next week, but with Summers taking over in game for Kirksey, if Kirksey is out I would expect Summers to get the shot in the middle next week.

Joe Thomas, Linebacker, Dallas Cowboys
Ownership: FleaFlicker 12%, Yahoo 1%

Since Leighton Vander Esch went out in Week 1, Joe Thomas has stepped in and played in 100% of the snaps both Weeks 2 and 3. In those two games he has 10 solos, 10 assists and 1 TFL. Don’t expect him to be the main guy in Dallas, that belong to Jaylon Smith, but Thomas giving you LB3 value off the waiver wire is a nice find. Factor in that Dallas plays Cleveland next, and Cleveland in giving up bunches of fantasy points to opposing linebackers, and Joe Thomas is a great add this week.

2. Defensive Backs

Jordan Whitehead, Safety, Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Ownership: Fleaflicker 16%, Yahoo 3%

Following up on Antoine Winfield Jr. last week, Whitehead is the other starting safety for Tampa Bay, who is also playing the large majority of snaps (91%, 100% and 100%) this season. He comes in at the DB6 currently, with 12 solos, 4 assists, 3 TFL, 1 sack, 1 PD and 1 interception (32 points so far). With both players appearing to be viable options this year, Whitehead is a nice add going into a Week 4 game with the Chargers.

Julian Love, Safety, New York Giants
Ownership: Fleaflicker 5%, Yahoo 0%

He’s DB20 currently, and most of that was before Jabrill Peppers went out with an ankle sprain. Ankle sprains are tricky to gauge the length of time out with, but even if Peppers is not out long, Love was getting enough playing time (100%, 98% and 88%) to be worth consideration. Sitting at 17 solos, 2 assists, 1 TFL, 1 PD and 1 interception and the high powered Rams and Cowboys offenses coming up next, there’s a good chance you are going to love his production the next few weeks.

Jordan Fuller and/or Taylor Rapp, Safety, Los Angeles Rams
Fuller Ownership: Fleaflicker 16%, Yahoo 1%
Rapp Ownership: Fleaflicker 50%, Yahoo 10%

This one is a big of a mess, but worth going into. Fuller (99% and 100% the first two games) has been playing over Rapp (21% and 24% the first two games), however Fuller was hurt this week (he went out with a shoulder injury) and played only 8 snaps (13%) on defense. Rapp, who was the starter last year, came in for him and ended up playing 89% of the defensive snaps against the Bills.

Rapp was the DB19 last year starting for the Rams, and was great in fantasy. In real life, he had issues, which is why Fuller was starting over him this year. If Fuller is not going to be out long, I would go get him for when he returns. If he is going to be out for awhile, or you are looking for someone for this week go get Rapp. Rapp ended with 6 solos, 1 assist and 1 TFL in Week 3 and history shows he will get your points if he is starting.

Mike Hilton, Cornerback, Pittsburgh Steelers
Ownership: Fleaflicker 40%, Yahoo 14%

After finishing as the DB29,and CB8, last year, Hilton has picked-up where he left off. He is currently the DB1 this season with 51 points (Weeks of 11, 23 and 17), with 19 solos, 2 assists, 4 TFL, 2 sacks, 3 PD, 1 interception and 1 fumble recovery. We’ve discussed cornerbacks in DB classification leagues ad nauseum in our RotoHeat IDP Shows, but Hilton now has a clear history of production. If he’s available, go get him.

1. Defensive Linemen

LANDOVER, MD – SEPTEMBER 23: Ryan Kerrigan #91 of the Washington Redskins leaves the field after the game against the Chicago Bears at FedExField on September 23, 2019 in Landover, Maryland. (Photo by Scott Taetsch/Getty Images)

Ryan Kerrigan, Defensive End, Washington Football Team
Ownership: FleaFlicker 25%, Yahoo 6%

Rookie phenom Chase Young is expected to miss a couple weeks with a groin injury, which gives Kerrigan (32%, 30% and 65% snap percentages the first three weeks) a chance at some increased playing time. Kerrigan had a huge Week 1 (19 points), but followed it up by 0 and 2 points the past two. Kerrigan may not do much next week against Baltimore either, but matchups in Weeks 5 (Rams),6 (Giants) and 7 (Dallas) are going to be great chances at increased production for him if Young is still out.

Dion Jordan, Defensive End, San Francisco 49ers
Ownership: FleaFlicker %, Yahoo %

This is your Flyer of the Week, if you will. Dion Jordan has always been long on talent (#3 pick in the 2013 NFL draft) and low on production (10.5 sacks before 2020). Signed off the practice squad for Week 3, he played in 22 of the 49ers 53 defensive snaps. In that limited time, he had 1 solo, 1 assist, 1 TFL and one sack. Yes, that is not a lot, but you only need one or two big plays to have defensive line value, and the 49ers play the Eagles next, who are giving up loads of pressure to opposing defenses. I am not claiming Jordan will have weekly value to play the rest of the year, but if you need help, I like him as a flyer this week.

Sheldon Richardson, DT, Cleveland Browns
Ownership: FleaFlicker 31%, Yahoo 6%

Similar to Dion Jordan, I don’t see Richardson as a weekly play, unless you are in DT required leagues. He had a quiet Week 1 (1 solo on 61% of the snaps) but the past two weeks (73% and 66% snap shares) he had has 7 solos, 3 assists, 3 TFLs, 2 sacks and 1 PD. With the Dallas Cowboys up next, who are giving up a lot of points to defensive tackles, Richardson could be in line for another very nice week.

Shelby Harris, DE/DT, Denver Broncos
Ownership: FleaFlicker 14%, Yahoo 2%

A surprise at DL 5 currently, Harris has 9 solos, 2 assists, 3 TFL, 2 sacks, 1 PD, 1 blocked kick and 1 forced fumble, via weeks of 8.50, 9.00 and 16.50 points so far. As with many defensive linemen, he isn’t getting huge amounts of playing time (56%, 51% and 57%) but he has been creating fantasy production with it. As a word of warning, we do see these players each year that start off hot and cool or or disappear as the season goes on, and Harris’ history doesn’t have prolonged periods of high production. If you are looking to bolster your defensive line at a cheap cost, I like Harris in Week 4 against a bad Jets team.
