Bio

Jameson Williams started his football career attending Cardinal Ritter College Prep High School in St. Louis, Missouri. In High School, Williams was able to catch 104 passes for 2,688 yards and 37 touchdowns in two seasons. He also added 3 touchdowns on kickoff returns.

Beyond football Jameson Williams ran track in high school, winning multiple state titles.

After finishing high school, Jameson Williams chose to commit to Ohio State as a four-star recruit, passing on offers from the likes of Nebraska, Oregon, UCLA, and, most notably, Alabama.

After joining Ohio State in 2019, Jameson Williams only started six games in two seasons with the Buckeyes. He caught just 15 passes for 266 yards and 3 touchdowns.

Clearly not being a part of the starting core of wide receivers at OSU, Jameson Williams decided to transfer to the Alabama Crimson Tide for his junior season in 2021. This was a good choice by Williams, who amassed 79 catches for 1572 receiving yards and 15 receiving TDs.

NFL Outlook

We all know that the NFL absolutely loves speed. And Jameson Williams is just the latest in the line of incredibly speedy Alabama wide receivers. In 2020 it was Henry Ruggs, in 2021 it was Jaylen Waddle. Now, in the 2022 NFL Draft, it is Jameson Williams.

Whichever team drafts Jameson Williams to be their rookie wide receiver, they are going to get a lot of speed. He has elite speed. Williams is not the best route-runner out there, but he makes up for that with speed and he uses that excellently to create separation and get open at all levels of the field.

Unfortunately for Jameson Williams, he tore his ACL in the National Championship game. This means we will not get to see him run the 40-yard dash this offseason, which might create speculation on whether he will have lost a step. The RotoHeat team believes he would have run somewhere in the low 4.4’s, maybe even hitting the high 4.3’s.

However, Williams certainly has the talent and potential to make him a first-round pick in the 2022 NFL Draft. Before the injury, there was no doubt he was a first-round talent.

Looking beyond just the speed, Jameson Williams is an upcoming rookie wide receiver who will help his team move the sticks. He has a knack for stopping his routes at the first-down marker, which could quickly make him a favorite target of his new QB. Williams has good hands and is a threat to go the distance every time he touches the football.

When it comes to things the RotoHeat analysts dislike about Williams it has to be his lack of willingness to block and his lazy attitude on running plays. He rarely ever put his hands on a defender on plays where he should be blocking.

It has also been noted that his route-running needs some work and that Jameson Williams sometimes drifts a bit on his routes instead of leveling out or coming back to help his QB.

All-in-all, Williams is poised to be an electric playmaker in the NFL, at least as long as he gets a coach who understands that Williams should be used all over the field and not just on downfield throws.

In terms of fantasy value, Williams is likely going to be a great pick wherever you take him in rookie drafts. His rookie draft stock is going to depend a lot on where he goes in the 2022 NFL Draft. If Jameson Williams is picked in the first round, he could easily be a top5 rookie pick in non-SF leagues, but if he goes on Day 2 of the Draft, it shows that the NFL is concerned about his injury and he might slip a bit in rookie drafts. If you are lucky enough to get Jameson Williams mid-to-late first round of rookie drafts, that is a steal!
