Do you buy or sell these 2 stud IDP players? It is time to start a new series here at RotoHeat. There are lots questions of IDP with all the major free agent signings and the NFL Draft now complete. For the next few weeks, I will offer up some thoughts on whether or not you should buy or sell these stud IDP players.

Many circumstances have changed to either add value to a player or decrease value on a player. Did they bring in a veteran free agent? Did they draft a rookie in the top 4 rounds? Did they lose a veteran player to free agency? All of these scenarios play a very big part on a player’s fantasy success from one year to the next year.

TJ Watt – Linebacker

Heading into his 5th year, TJ Watt is the picture of consistency. He has only missed 2 games in 4 years. Over his last 3 years, he has had at least 13 sacks and 53 tackles. He is not just an edge rusher, as TJ has had 4 interceptions and 17 forced fumbles. There is a concern now with Bud Dupree leaving, because for TJ’s entire career, he has had Dupree on the other side. That was until Week 12 of 2020. The last 5 weeks of 2020 was the first time TJ played without Dupree for more than a game.

The first 12 games of 2020, TJ averaged 22.43 points. In 3 out of his last 4 games (TJ sat in Week 17), TJ scored just 12.75, 19.25, and 19 points. It proves that a great compliment on the other side only makes you better. Bud Dupree signed with the Titans, so will TJ continue to dominate and stay a top 15 linebacker? Does Pittsburgh have a player of Dupree’s value to put opposite of TJ? As hard as this is to say, sell him high now. I do not believe that the Steelers have a player of Bud Dupree’s ability on their roster to keep any attention off of TJ.

Jaylon Smith – Linebacker

We have another linebacker going into his 5th year of playing. He has grown in overall tackles every year from 81, 121, 142, and 154 last year. His tackles for a loss are minimal at just 20 over the 4 years. His sacks are also minimal at just 9 over the past 4 years. He’s had 6 forced fumbles and just 2 interceptions. Is his time coming to an end in Dallas? He is the leader, along with LVE, of the 28th ranked NFL Defense. Are the Cowboys going to keep letting these two men handle the middle and lead this defense.

The NFL Draft had the answer. Micah Parsons was selected with the 12th overall pick and Jabril Cox was taken with the 10th pick in the 4th round. I think Jaylon will start this year, but will then get replaced later in the season or next year by Jabril Cox. Sell Jaylon now to get top dollar. In my opinion, Jaylon’s value will only decrease from this time on.
