Detroit Lions sign WR Breshad Perriman to 1-Year Deal

The Detroit Lions have agreed to a one-year deal with former New York Jets’ wide receiver, Breshad Perriman, per ESPN’s Adam Schefter. Perriman’s deal, according to Schefter, is worth $3 million.

Breshad is a former first-round pick for the Baltimore Ravens. After missing his entire rookie season due to injury, Perriman had two disappointing years in Baltimore before being released. He’s since been a journeyman, spending a single season with the Browns, Buccaneers, and Jets. The Lions are hoping they are adding the Breshad Perriman that popped towards the end of the 2019 season in Tampa Bay. Perriman posted 20 receptions for 419 yards and 5 touchdowns in the Bucs final four games that season.

Perriman, for the most part, had struggled during his 5-year career. In his 5 seasons, Perriman has yet to play a full 16 game season, and his career average is 25 catches, 413 yards and 2.8 touchdowns a season. His greatest asset is his speed, and his biggest liability is his ability to stay healthy.

Perriman joins a completely revamped Detroit Lions’ receiver core. Gone are Marvin Jones Jr., Kenny Golladay, and Danny Amendola. Earlier in free agency, the Lions did add former Raiders receiver Tyrell Williams, as it appears they are heavily prioritizing speed and athleticism at the position.
