Chris Herndon Fantasy Outlook 2021

In this article, we are going to cover the Chris Herndon fantasy outlook for 2021. We will share where we think he will rank amongst all tight ends in 2021. Should you buy, hold or sell? Will Chris Herndon be more or less valuable in 2022? Do we think he is going to be a league winner, weekly starter, flex play, spot starter, dark horse or dart throw? Included is all of this as well as personal opinions of the eight people that participated from the RotoHeat staff.

Chris Herndon Fantasy Outlook 2021: What Is His Weekly Playability?

Half of us feel that Chris will be a spot starter in his new Minnesota home, while two each have him as a dart throw or darkhorse. The spot starters think he will have value as a replacement for the injured Irv Smith Jr. One of those who believe in him said “After being traded to Minnesota, Herndon finds himself in the best offense he has ever played in. If Herndon can find his game from his rookie season, he stands the chance of being viable for fantasy. The Vikings run more two TE sets than any team in the league and Minnesota is desperate for another pass catching option behind Jefferson, Thielen and Cook.”

Chris Herndon Fantasy Outlook 2021: More, Same or Less Valuable in 2022 Dynasty Offseason?

Seven of the eight of us feel that Chris’ value will be lower or the same as it is right now, with half of us feeling it will stay near current value. He is the TE 28 in RotoHeat SF Dynasty Positional ADP and TE 41 in Fantasy Pros PPR Draft Positional ADP. Just 25 years old, Chris has always had the talent, but just has not had the consistently to put it together over his first three years.

Tight ends do normally take longer to establish themselves in the league, but a young team like the Jets giving up on him where they do not have a lot of depth is not a good sign. It seems like every offseason has been Chris Herndon hype-season, and as one of the team members said “How many times can one TE get hyped before managers stop falling for it?”

Chris Herndon Fantasy Outlook 2021: Buy, Sell or Hold?

The RotoHeat team thinks this is a great opportunity to get out from any Chris Herndon shares you may still be holding onto. Six of the eight of us are taking this chance to sell, and as one of us put it “Selling with this news if anyone is buying. He MAY be the TE 1 there…but is learning a new system and was having repeated issues in the Jets system.”

Hold: 2
Sell: 6

Chris Herndon Fantasy Outlook 2021: Where Will He Rank vs. All Tight Ends?

At best, those who reviewed Herndons’s new situation feel he will be a back-end tight end two this year; four of the eight think he falls in the TE 19 – TE 24 range. The rest think he will fall outside that, as we just do not see enough opportunity for a great fantasy season. As one of our team member said “At best we are looking at the 3rd or 4th option in Minnesota’s passing attack. Jefferson and Thielen should continue to dominate the targets leaving Herndon to be a touchdown dependent TE.”

Chris Herndon Fantasy Outlook 2021: Conclusion

Overall, we feel that in the short-term Chris Herndon’s situation, and thus value, improved, as he was clearly on the outs with the Jets. That said, we do not think that he is the long-term TE 1 on a Vikings team that is run-first based.
