Bijan Robinson attended Salpointe Catholic High School in Tuscan, Arizona. During his time at Salpointe, Robinson set a state record for rushing, (7,036 yards), and touchdowns, (114). In his senior season, he ran 126 times for 2,235 yards and scored 38 times en route to the Arizona Gatorade Football Player of the Year award. Bijan was rated a 4-star recruit by ESPN and given a 5-star grade by 247 Sports. Not surprisingly, Robinson was the No. 1 high school running back prospect in the country. Upon completion of his High School Career, Bijan Robinson committed to the University of Texas.

In his three seasons at Texas, Robinson appeared in a total of 31 games, starting 28 of them. In 2020 as a freshman he appeared in 9 games, rushing for 703 yards on 86 attempts for an average of 8.2 yards per carry, and scored 4 TDs. In the receiving game, he added 15 receptions for 196 yards. He was named the 2020 Alamo Bowl MVP.

Entering the 2021 season, Robinson was firmly on the radar as one of the best running back prospects in college football. His performance didn’t disappoint. Playing in 10 games as a sophomore he ran for 1,127 yards on 195 carries, with 11 TDs. In the passing game, he pulled in 26 receptions for 293 yards. In 2022 his final year in college, Robison put an exclamation point on his time as a Longhorn. In 12 games for the Longhorns. He rushed for 1,575 yards on 257 attempts, (6.1 YPC), with 18 TDs. He added 19 receptions for an additional 314 yards. He was a unanimous All-American selection, the 2022 Doak Walker Award, and leaves Texas with 18 career 100-yard rushing performances, and 33 TDs.

Bijan Robinson enters the 2023 NFL Draft as a projected first-round selection. He will enter fantasy rookie drafts of all formats as the consensus first-overall selection. In the four seasons that I have been studying rookies entering the draft, Bijan is head and shoulders above any prospect I had previously reviewed.

Robinson’s lateral agility and elusiveness are special. He plays with great pace and balance and frequently makes defenders miss in tight, confined spaces. His balance is next level and it plays a significant part in his success because even when defenders are able to make contact with him, he tends to bounce off of them and continues to work up the field to pick up positive yardage.

In addition to his exceptional abilities as a ball carrier, he is an exceptional pass-catcher. Robinson ran every route at Texas, and at times motioned out of the backfield or lined up outside. On plays where Robinson is asked to stay in and block, he displayed the ability to effectively pick blitzes and impede those attacking his quarterback. The combination of his receiving skills and pass protection makes Robinson a rarity in today’s game — a true three-down running back.
