2021 NFL Week 9 IDP Waiver Wire Adds: Linebackers

2021 NFL Week 9 IDP Waiver Wire Adds: Linebackers
2021 NFL Week 9 IDP Waiver Wire Adds: Linebackers – Kyzir White

Josh Bynes, Linebacker, Baltimore Ravens
Rostered: Sleeper 0%, Yahoo 0%

Bynes was signed by the Ravens to their practice squad at the end of the preseason after being cut by the Panthers. This is his third stint with the Ravens and he was activated to their main roster at the end of September. He took over the middle linebacker spot from Patrick Queen (moved to the weakside) in Week 6. Week 6 (4 solos, 2 assists, 2 TFL, and 1 PD) and Week 7 (5 solos, 1 assist, and 1 TFL) saw him get a 77% and 73% snap share, respectively. Week 8 was the Ravens’ bye, and for Week 9 the Vikings are middle of the road (13th) in points allowed to opposing linebackers, but as the main guy in the middle right now Bynes is a valuable waiver add.

Ernest Jones, Linebacker, Los Angeles Rams
Rostered: Sleeper 0%, Yahoo 1%

If you read last week this is a repeat, but one that bears repeating. Ernest Jones took over soon than I expected with the Kenny Young trade this past week. Ernest ended Week 8 with a 92% snap share and a line of 7 solos, 2 assists, 1 TFL, .5 sack, 1 INT, and 1 PD. The big plays may not be there each week but a high tackle mark is very possible in this defense, which has seen a variety of players become fantasy relevant. If he is available he is a must add at this point.

Kyzir White, Linebacker, Los Angeles Chargers
Rostered: Sleeper 0%, Yahoo 4%

Kyzir has lead the Chargers linebackers with a 76% snap share this year. He has played in every game this year and has at least four combined tackles in every game. The Eagles are their Week 9 opponent, and with how the Chargers have been vulnerable to the run this year combined with the Eagles new dedication to running the ball (as seen in Week 8 agains the Lions) I think White is a great play this week and he also has rest-of-the-year play potential, as he is a top 25 LB on the year.

Malik Reed, Linebacker, Denver Broncos
Rostered: Sleeper 0%, Yahoo 0%

Baron Browning, Linebacker, Denver Broncos
Rostered: Sleeper 0%, Yahoo 0%

Von Miller was traded to the Los Angeles Rams mid-day on November 1, which leaves Reed as a likely permanent starter the rest of this year. Reed has 11 solos, 11 assists, 2 TFL, 4 sacks, 2 forced fumbles, 1 fumble recovery, and 1 PD on the year. He has an 85% snap share starting all but one game this year.

Browning has played sparingly (26% was his highest snap rate) until Week 8 when he hit 97%. He had 5 solos, 3 assists, and 1 TFL in that game and with the trade of Von Miller he seems likely to continue to see snaps. Browning is a high level athlete that never fully put it together in college, but was a 3rd round pick in the 2021 NFL Draft and the Broncos clearly want to see what they have in him at this point in the season.

2021 NFL Week 9 IDP Waiver Wire Adds: Defensive Backs

2021 NFL Week 9 IDP Waiver Wire Adds: Defensive Backs
2021 NFL Week 9 IDP Waiver Wire Adds: Defensive Backs – Talanoa Hufanga

Marcus Epps, Safety, Philadelphia Eagles
Rostered: Sleeper 0%, Yahoo 0%

Epps has filled in for Anthony Harris the past two weeks and has had a 100% snap share each week. He ended the two games with 5 solos and 6 assists in Week 7, and then 7 solos and 2 assists with 1 PD in Week 8. You will want to see if Anthony Harris returns this week but if he does not Epps should be a good play this week agains the Chargers if you need a bye week or injury fill in. The Eagles bye week is not until Week 14.

Talanoa Hufanga, Safety, San Francisco 49ers
Rostered: Sleeper 0%, Yahoo 0%

The Bears have not been kind to opposing safetys this year, giving up the third fewest points to them, but that did not stop Talanoa from having a nice game filling in for the injured Jaquiski Tartt. In his first start of the year he ended with 4 solos, 1 assist, and 1 TFL. The Cardinals are a slightly better match-up (6th fewest points to opposing safetys), but with the 49ers bye week in the past (Week 6) and Tartt out for at least two more games I like Hufanga as an add. The 49ers already had their bye week in Week 6.

Bryce Hall, Cornerback, New York Jets
Ownership: Sleeper 0%, Yahoo 1%

Hall is a top 25 cornerback on the year and leads Jets cornerbacks with a 98% snap share on the year. The Jets play the Colts on Thursday night, and the Colts give up currently give up the most points to opposing cornerbacks. Given that Hall has had at least 3 combined tackles and 1 PD each week from Week 2 on, he’s a great play. The Jets already had their bye week in Week 6.

2021 NFL Week 9 IDP Waiver Wire Adds: Defensive Linemen

2021 NFL Week 9 IDP Waiver Wire Adds: Defensive Linemen
2021 NFL Week 9 IDP Waiver Wire Adds: Defensive Linemen – Arik Armstead

Trey Hendrickson, Defensive End, Cincinnati Bengals
Rostered: Sleeper 2%, Yahoo 10%

Hendrickson made an appearance here a few weeks back, but he still is not rostered enough. He only has two weeks (Week 1 and Week 4) without a sack, and he has a 71% snap share on the year. Week 9 brings the Browns whose offensive line keeps getting banged up. If Trey is available he is a great add for this week, but be aware that the Bengals do have a bye week in Week 10.

Arik Armstead, Defensive End, San Francisco 49ers
Rostered: Sleeper 0%, Yahoo 1%

Armstead has never been a great IDP play, and he only has 8 solos, 10 assists, 2 TFL, and 1 sack on the year despite a 72% snap share. This is more of a one week play, but the Week 9 opponent is the Cardinals, who give the second most points to opposing defensive ends. As mentioned before the 49ers bye week was in Week 6.

David Onyemata, Defensive Tackle, New Orleans Saints
Rostered: Sleeper 0%, Yahoo 0%

David came back from a six game suspension for performance enhancing drugs in Week 8 for his first game of the season. He ended with a 44% snap share and only had a a fumble recovery for the stat sheet. In 2020 however he was a top 10 interior linemen for fantasy scoring and Week 9 brings the Falcons, who give up the most points this year to opposing defensive tackles. He snap share should be up in Week 9 and with him virtually free and forgotten about by most he may be found for free after waivers run. The Saints had their bye week in Week 6.
