2021 NFL Week 8 IDP Waiver Wire Adds

Well, we all survived the worst bye week of this NFL season. We have four more weeks of having four teams off each time, but no more weeks of six teams off. Part of me hopes the NFL keeps upping their game each week, and next year we have a week with eight teams off, but I digress into my love for fantasy football chaos.

We only have two teams off this week, but the injury madness continues. Not only are (seemingly) more and more players hurt at a higher rate, but the unlimited IR return makes it more difficult to navigate some of this. Who is out? How long? Will they come back? So many tough decisions to make when you have limited roster sizes.

But that is what we are here for; no matter your league size, we want to help you find players that will be able to help you out.

2021 NFL Week 8 IDP Waiver Wire Adds: Linebackers

2021 NFL Week 8 IDP Waiver Wire Adds: Linebackers
2021 NFL Week 8 IDP Waiver Wire Adds: Linebackers – Jamin Davis

Elandon Roberts, Linebacker, Miami Dolphins
Ownership: Sleeper 0%, Yahoo 21%

Elandon was getting some playing time and decent production even before Jerome Baker went down with a knee injury in Week 7. That led to Elandon hitting a 70% snap share on the year for only the second time this year. Baker’s MRI came back clear, but it is not a certainty that Baker will play in Week 8. Buffalo is their Week 8 opponent and they are middle of the road in points to opposing linebackers (14th).

The Dolphins do not have their bye until Week 14, and depending on who else is on your team, Roberts is someone you can potentially keep for the rest of the year. He is LB41 on the year so far, so he has flex/bye week value as it already.

Jamin Davis, Linebacker, Washington Football Team
Ownership: Sleeper 2%, Yahoo 2%

Washington started using two linebackers more this week as opposed to the mainly three safeties they had been once Jon Bostic went down. Davis had by far his highest snap share of the year at 98%, and he ended the game with 4 solos and 1 assist.

Denver is a decent match-up for opposing linebackers; they give up the 12th most points to them. He is not likely to have a monster game, but is worth as an add for this week and potentially going forward. He is probably not available in dynasty leagues but should be in redraft leagues. Also, be aware when adding him that Washington has a Week 9 bye.

Jarrad Davis, Linebacker, New York Jets
Ownership: Sleeper 0%, Yahoo 0%

Jarrad Davis may not play this week and has not played this year due to injury. The Jets had their bye in Week 6, and after that was speculated to be the timeframe for when he returned. The Jets linebackers are a mess with Quincy Williams, CJ Mosely, Hamsah Nasirildeen and now Jamien Sherwood all hurt. Blake Cashman did not play well in Week 7

Jarrad was signed to a one-year prove it deal and the Jets have said he will have a chance to start when healthy. Given how many byes are coming up, and his impending return and playing time, he is a nice speculative going forward.

Kenny Young, Linebacker, Denver Broncos
Ownership: Sleeper 1%, Yahoo 11%

With their linebacking corps in disarray, the Broncos traded a 2024 6th round pick to the Rams for Kenny Young and a 2024 7th round pick. AJ Johnson and Josey Jewell are out for the year and rookie Baron Browning does not look ready. That left Justin Strnad and practice squad claimed Micah Kiser (from the Rams oddly enough), but Kiser, Von Miller and Curtis Robinson (the latter two ouside linebackers) all got hurt in Week 7. Kenny had decent IDP production this year on the Rams with only one game under 5 combined tackles, so he should start and continue to have decent use here. Denver’s bye this year in in Week 11.

Troy Reeder, Linebacker, Los Angeles Rams
Ownership: Sleeper 0%, Yahoo 3%

Reeder looks to be the current next man up with Kenny Young’s trade to Denver The Rams have their bye in Week 11. He has 16 solos, 12 assists, 1 TFL, 2 INT and 3 PD on the year despite only a 47% snap share. He should see a higher snap percentage regularly for a few weeks here, but it is possible he loses his status as the main ILB for the Rams later this season to Ernest Jones, so keep that in mind. The Rams bye week is Week 11 this year.

Ernest Jones, Linebacker, Los Angeles Rams
Ownership: Sleeper 0%, Yahoo 0%

Ernest only has 45 snaps on the year, but the coaching staff has said they are looking to get the rookie 3rd round pick on the field more. With the trade of Kenny Young he will have a chance to be the #2 inside linebacker and possible supplant Troy Reeder, who has been steady if unspectacular. More of a speculative redraft add if you have room but I see him gaining playing time and mattering down the road here. He probably is not on waivers in dynasty leagues.

2021 NFL Week 8 IDP Waiver Wire Adds: Defensive Backs

2021 NFL Week 8 IDP Waiver Wire Adds: Defensive Backs
2021 NFL Week 8 IDP Waiver Wire Adds: Defensive Backs – Richie Grant

DeAndre Houston-Carson, Safety, Chicago Bears
Ownership: Sleeper 0%, Yahoo 0%

With Deon Bush on IR and Tashaun Gipson out in Week 7 with a hip injury, DeAndre started for the Bears and had 7 solos, 4 assists, 1 PD, and 1 fumble recovery in a poor safety matchup against Tampa Bay. With the season getting out of control for Chicago, they are going to have to see what they have in younger players like DeAndre soon. It is possible he takes a backseat to Gipson when healthy, but the Week 8 match-up against safeties is a nice one as they give up the 7th most points to opposing safeties on the year.

I would not spend a bunch of FAAB on him, but I like him this week. Just keep an eye on Gipson’s status this week. The Bears have a bye in Week 10 this year.

Richie Grant, Safety/Cornerback, Atlanta Falcons
Ownership: Sleeper 0%, Yahoo 0%

Richie Grant has been getting most of his recent uptick in playing time at slot cornerback. He played six snaps Week 1, then did not play the next three weeks. In Week 5 he had a 50% snap share, with 60% of his snaps as a slot corner. In Week 7 he got up to a 79% snap share with 90% of them in the slot.

He is still a safety on most sites, but playing as a cornerback mainly gives him a nice matchup against the Panthers in Week 8; the Panthers give up the fourth most points to opposing cornerbacks. The Falcons already had their bye in Week 6.

Elijah Molden, Cornerback, Tennessee Titans
Ownership: Sleeper 0%, Yahoo 0%

Before Week 6, Molden’s highest snap share was 59% in Week 1. In Weeks 6 (6 solos, 3 assists, 1 TFL) and Week 7 (6 solos, 2 assists) he was up to 94% and 96%, respectively. Week 8 brings a match-up against the Colts who are 10th in points allowed to opposing cornerbacks. Molden is in line for nice week as a waiver play.

2021 NFL Week 8 IDP Waiver Wire Adds: Defensive Linemen

2021 NFL Week 8 IDP Waiver Wire Adds: Defensive Linemen
2021 NFL Week 8 IDP Waiver Wire Adds: Defensive Linemen – Derrick Brown

Kwity Paye, Defensive End, Indianapolis Colts
Ownership: Sleeper 0%, Yahoo 0%

Paye had nice weeks in Week 1 and Week 2 before getting hurt. He returned in Week 6 (1 solo) to a 59% snap share and amped that up to 79% in Week 7 (1 solo, 3 assists, 1 fumble recovery). He should continue to get better as the season goes on, and Week 8 brings the Titans who give up the third most points to opposing defensive ends. The Colts also do not have a bye until Week 14.

Kingsley Keke, Defensive End, Green Bay Packers
Ownership: Sleeper 0%, Yahoo 0%

This is a deep pull for you all. The Packers play Arizona on Thursday night this week, and Keke is coming off his best game of the year (4 solos, 2 assists, 1.5 sacks and 1 TFL). Three of his last four games have him with at least three combined tackles or a big play (TFL, sack, etc). Kingsley has a 52% snap share on the season and Arizona gives up the 6th most points to oppsing defensive ends. He isn’t worth a start in most leagues most weeks, but if you are in a pinch, he is a decent one week play.

Derrick Brown, Defensive Tackle, Carolina Panthers
Ownership: Sleeper 0%, Yahoo 2%

The 7th pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, Derrick Brown has been a better real life player than fantasy football asset. He only has three out of seven games with more than one solo tackle, and also only three games with more than two combined tackles. Week 8 brings a good match-up in the Falcons, who give up the most points to opposing defensive tackles. He has a 64% snap share which is decent for a defensive tackle, and is also the highest at the position on his team. Coming off a nice Week 7 game I like him to have another good one against Atlanta. The Panthers’ bye this year is in Week 13.
